Record from midi? Do you mean an internal VST or do you have 5 hardware synths?
What is your CPU and how much RAM do you have?
I used to have a pretty low limit on VST's before I hit max CPU load, but I bought a new dual core processor and that problem has pretty much gone away.
If you're happy with the sound and it's eq'd correctly, then you might as well bounce it to disk and import it back into the track, this opens up new possibilities for cutting it up and adding more effects. |

when reaching high cpu-level i bounce midiparts to audio and hide the midi track in a seperate foldertrack (add folder) so its easy to go back to it when needed and it hardly fills the cpu or screen anymore.
i like to work with bounced kick and bass, makes editing easy. it also pushes me into next stage instead of endless tweaking kick and bass.
also like to save some different stage-versions (one for every time midi was bounced) while making a track putting it in subfolders in the cubase projectfolder called something like first version, 2nd, etcetera. |

I always bounce evrything dry . Always nice to have the most clean output to work with . f recorded with a wet effect and u need to change it , u need to make a new bounce . So in my opinion bounce everything dry ,and apply fx later . |
