Hello, can you give me ideas to create those fake drops / teasers / confusing but surpising stuff?
How do you think when you want to trick the audience?
Also any ideas on what kind of fx could help me give the audience real hard tripping feel, like dizziness or disorientation, im thinking of flanging 3d stereo stuff but don't know... if you have any experience please share.
Thanks in advance & have a nice day. |

"baaaahh", Elad?
There are particular fx that creat this sensations, like hard panning stuff or deep stereo fx i thought you could throw out some of your personal ideas, i have my own, i don't understand the reason of your sarcasm.
Why post if you ain't going to expose any good idea? Don't you have anything to share regarding teasers, fake explosions, surprising stuff?
What's wrong in trying to share this stuff and learn from other people point of view? Or maybe you prefer to answer another bassline thread.
Ok, so now if anyone has something to share besides apathic sarcastic expressions you are more than welcome.
Thanks bandarlog will try it |

nice tip bandarlog! gonna try it...
and +1 to what elad said. it is relative to how do you feel the trance music..
i like to put some ambience fxs and noises with lots of delay.. (bionic delay is really good to do it!)
and bout the synthesizers.. use a lot of LFO and automate it, filter frequency ...
Anarchy Effects's Spectral Autopan gives good results on psychedelic panning.. but sometimes is better to make it manually, automating pan.
the main thing, i think, is to think about how people will react to the music... i get myself thinking bout it a lot when producing music. if it would surprise me, why not the other people?

one more thing.... i think that the way you construct your drums & fx progressions is fundamental to surprise people..
you can get the same elements and get them euphorical or bored... depending on how you have done it |

Thank youall but more than the vsts i am interested in the technique behind this, or the thought, as Onionbrain mentioned: about how people will react to the music...
I know little stuff about psychoacoustics, i understand basic principles of narrative and energy flow in music, i'm learning much about music theory everyday it passes and well i believe we can discuss that way of thinking, of creating music to surprise.
Most of the time i think of the bassline as the main element to tease with as many respected hitek artists do, filtering, reversing, glitching, pitching and giving the audience the feeling that something weird is happening to that rail our mind goes on suddenly silence, perhaps bassline can come back all bitcrush highpassed and just blast to a fake bassdrop that fades to a 1/4 delay into silence deep atmosphere of psychedelic textures (say grain delay for example)...
That is just an example, it is not that i can not imagine is that i wanted to know how other more experienced artists think about all this stuff and what can you all say about this, most of us have been there on the floor completely into the music just feeling like puppets to the beat, what are nice tricks to play on the audience?
I believe very talented artists post in this forum i know i can get interesting insights from you people. Come on don't be lazy and talk about how you think... i believe this forum should be filled with this kind of information rather than another "how do i make talking psylead?". If you love this music then you should like to talk about it too. Just my 2cents. |

Heavy build-up to two bars of kick and bass to even heavier build up to main drop.

id say go and immediately , sit and make with the best possible way this texture you have in your mind and dont just let that pass together with 50 more ideas, and after that reuse that concept 20 times in different tracks/loops .. then, after time all this will be much easier to do with a better aspect, your own aspect and will sound more original and sophisticated imho
we let to many good ideas to pass and stick to "formulas" many times

+1 for jizys advice on uhbik, they´re killing!!! tend to use them most...
another cool stuff is like u said yourself, hard stereo panning, extreme stereo boost (flux stereo tool), i love to let the sound rotate around u. so maybe panorama plugin with automated direction (waves panorama)....
surge i.e. offers some cool rotation stuff too so u dont need to process the sound after....
autopan maybe controlled by lfo.... ableton got an autopan plugin, otherwise camel space is pretty cool...
cool and pretty tricky is to record some soundstuff with different fx, cut and rearrange. so maybe unprocessed sound at the beginning, next part gettin some stereospread in, after some cool delay comes apart and ending in large reverb. i love that shit, sounding like a soundflower growin up. consolidate to one sound, there u go.....
enjoy, cheerz
  FUCK GENRES, LOVE MUSIC!!!!

I think confusion can be made in many ways!
and also surprise.. but like gutter say its hard when you do music by a formula... hehe, maybe even impossible!
listen to my track, Psychained(billiont draft) at my myspace, i think its pretty surprising and confusing at times... well things happen that you dont expect, or maybe you dont know what to expect... and it takes away the feeling of expecting.. hmm hehe
