So, basically i know nothing about scales except that they have to do with notes and probably with why my melodies sound so strange most of the time.
I hope this isn't a very massive request, nevertheless, any help is highly welcomed. |

look.....you should know some musical basics!
learn rythm , chords, notes, piano, guitar, drums.....atleast one of this at time!
singing .....just sing your favorite song!
listen a lot of music......not only electronic ofcourse!
and ofcourse you need.....(i dunno how to say this properly in english)
musical sense or "ears" .....the best way to know if you have this sense.....
is singing song exactly as the original singer....and looking if you are not faking!
cheers!

okay pick a key on the keyboard, starting from there
count up the keyboard, a Whole step would be if you skip one key, a half step would be if you go up exactly one key.
So from your starting key count up like this
W H W W H W W
where W= a whole step (2 keys up)
where H= a half step (1 key up)
Then when you make your song try and mostly only use these keys.
The 1st (one you started at) 3rd one from that and the 5th one from that work especially well.
This is a basic natural minor scale. This should get you started at least. Then do some more research to learn more about it.
Also make sure first that you at least know the names of the keys on the keyboard, like where C2 is
or where D4, etc... is. That will help alot.
Good luck

also remember music theory is just that, it's a theory
not fact. Think of it more as guidelines, it's okay to break the rules if it sounds interesting or good to you. The theory just helps you to know what "should" work.
