Good morning Isratrancies. I have a riddle for all producers out there. I installed my newly acquired Tascam US122 soundcard yesterday, but I seem to have run into some difficulties.

I get a skipping/clipping sound when playing back my Cubase files, but my old onboard soundcard didnt even do this! Ive already set the latency to maximum, hoping this would fix the problem, but no luck -. Its better, but still not right.

Any advice will be dearly appreciated.

I'm running a 2Ghz processor with 512Mb of Ram.

Which ASIO driver do you have selected in the VST Multitrack menu?

It should be the ASIO US-122 driver.
Selecting the ASIO DirectX or ASIO Multimedia driver will return crap results.

Also, did you disable your old onboard soundcard through the BIOS? This can be a significant conflict.

I selcted the Asio us 122 driver in the multitrack menu in Cubase, my hdd is running at 7200rpm, my latency is set to max - What next?

I'm running a Celeron Processor, could this be the problem?

Did you disable your built-in motherboard sound driver from the BIOS? You didn't mention if you tried that, you need to do this first.

Assuming that's done, how what speed is your Celeron? Cubase is pretty greedy as far as CPU goes and wants at least 2gHz to run smoothly.

I assume you've got the latest driver version from Tascam (3.24)

The following tips aren't specific for the US-122, but helped diagnose a similar tricky problem I had with another USB audio interface (Emagic 2/6)

First:
Press F12 to bring up the CPU/Disk Use Performance Graph, play your track, and observe the graph when the playback is skippy. Is one of them getting above 85%? If it's the CPU (top), well, there's your problem. If it's Disk (bottom) you probably need to defrag your Hard Drive.

Then:
Open a project, press F12, and sit and do nothing for a full 2 minutes. During this time, does the CPU meter "spike" suddenly up to 100% at regular intervals, just for a second? If so, you probably have another USB device (like a camera/media card reader) getting in the way. Checking for device changes is maxing your CPU for a split second, so Cubase is constantly trying to recover from a temporary CPU spike.

It's generally a good idea to unplug any USB cables you aren't using. Let me know if this works.

Thanks Aeon.
I'll try that tonite. I think I did disable the onboard soundcard? And I have a 2Ghz Celeron.
I'll get back to you as soon as I've tried what you said.
