It's mostly matter of taste..
Basically, if both of them are active, it's quite good price ( I would check in some more places if I was you ). I prefer Genelec for Tannoy but again, better having an active monitor than passive one..
As you can see, there isn't a definite answer ( at least I can't give one ) here...
Good luck |

both genelec/tannoy are "brand names", known, famous, blabla.in this case i'd compare specs (freq. response, dynamic range, etc.) and i'd perform frequency reponse test (if you have a CD burner): take audio editor and create a sin wave slide from 14 Hz to 22500 Hz in ... 30 seconds. (begin with the low freq.) then burn this audio on a CD, and listen to it in the store, see which monitors sound better, don't squeak and hisss.this test reveals manufacturing fsckups (badly mounted bolts, badlly glued parts, bad membranes) you should hear clear freq slide up: no "hrrrr" in the start and no "tssss" in the end. but, if you don't hear any difference .... then buy the cheapest :)
