TALES FROM THE DARK FOREST
[Stone Age 2003]
1. Shut wide eyes
PURO
2. Kamelot is burning
PSYCHOTIC MICRO
3. Overtrash
TRASHLORDS
4. In the forest
STEPTIME ON SIENIS
5. Nirvana
KLUSTER
6. Phaselock
SPINDRIFT
7. Pricken
KA-SOL
8. Slugy
DERANGO
9. May Muna
KINDZADZA

1. ominous gurgles and phazed lazers drizzle over wobbly dark stomp, hihat metronomes mark distance travelled. before long we are confronted with some monster melody and sense of battle , squiggly unraveling of the wall of sounnds they are given space to breathe and they come back and begin rebuilding the wall brick by brick, soldering each corner perfectly, a liquid metal machine, warbling and really crankin it out. he takes a break to sit down and the seat is pulsing with a flatulent funk, before long the lights are flickering. sizzly, dark, rolling , a mean slick lead weaves intergalactic worm anthems, all layers of awareness stacked and melting.

2. a see-saw bends us into a strange shape and we are send down a menacing tunnel with lights flashing on evil faces and facets of magic crystals shining in the light of drippy candles. we fly thru a big chamber and land our pod down on the effervescent floor which pulses as countless light beings begin to emanate from slithering shadows. slamming us into a slowdown funk, the light beams discuss thier superior technology, they go into a gallop and then a running rotating blur, your friends are calling at you from the party, come back to us! your head is spinning, you hear a few voices and a siren which clears the room a bit, all the sounds are sliding up the walls.....

3. bouncing wiggly acid squid slap each other and squeak thier little squid talk, the submarine invades the party and brings flashy lights, blinking and sending everything into a willy nilly melody rainbowscope. big bubbles come out of the submarine and light shines thru, making the shapes warp and twist, fish from all around now are coming in to see, a giant whirlpool begins to swirl. A sweet groove in the mad nordic goa style flows on and on. the drums are the only thing holding all the sounds together, as they threaten to spurt out the top, percussions giving depth and growing. a serious driver here, heady. bring that melody back harder for the end, aww yeah we get a big 30 seconds to send us flying, as the rest of the universe slips down the drain.

4. round and fat kicks, a funky duck, and a bassline that can only be described as honkin' set the pace for this tweaker. it begins to roll more with a lead teasing as the tension grows intense, the bugs are chattering, my perspective of the world is changing. still growing up more, the morphing tune begins to show its true form, the crowd goes wild! a cyber groover i might say, with that odd sienis twist. some of those anthemic sounds percolate up, the bass reforms itself, rolling on and leading us into a squiggly goo jam. build up and launch another set, dark and driving to call the sun from its slumber, a mad melody comes in to cover the whole dark monster with a wild frenzy of zooming lazers hypnotizing you, before long you're flying away into space, earth has disappeared far into the distance.

5. we hear tribal chanting and sounds of the forest to set the brainscape, techno comes in to fill up the air, buzzy, fat and bouncing. percussive work allows us to travel along unknown landscapes, further and further. another buzzy sound comes in to give rhythm, the ritual is about to begin, the drums continue. a bird loops a few too many times as the jungle pulses in and out.

6. glitchy digital slurpee leads us into a stuttery dark nutter, tracers off of lights, the room is spinning. a teasing lead comes with a taunting melody, then slips away, hiding in the background. it comes back out rounder and ready to rock you, the bassline has become more bouncy, the whole thing gets a bit scribbly ,more with the stutter nutter. its so crisp and strange, so distinct. so wheres that spindrift tweakout?! the lead comes crunching back, the technoid slam relentless, then it chills out a bit, then the lead starts coming thru in bass forms, then it comes back around for one last go, and drips and squiggles its way into silence.

7. a seriously warped bassline and serious kick drum team up to send us out on a ten minute excursion into goo-planet on our hover-dancefloor. an arpeggistab comes in and out of fog, strange carnival music haunts us from underneath the slippery ominousness. brief hints at warmth come in and are quickly extinguished by the oncoming assault of quivering waves gaining and expanding squishy like. falls away to a basic groove, simple but full of tiny sounds to fill your head with insects, you dance trying to get them to stop buzzing your head, they persist. the waves, the warmth, the bugs, the pulsing, growing monster begins to expand bigger and bigger, sound can be heard for miles around.

8. sizzly gurgles and jumpy kick rolls drive us headlong into a sliding run thru the dark forest, ivy and vines reaching down as you run and are pursued by many quick inchworms leaving trails of slime. a wild lead zaps you, sending your arms flying around. things shift around a bit as you catch your breath, adjustments to the thickness of the air maybe? a weird feeling comes over you, youre surrounded by beasts of all sizes and shapes... they begin to advance upon you and you decide to dance to fight them off, one after another. you are sent up into another level of wierdness, and then back down. from there it gets more stomping and wacky, the slamming battle rages on as you look down at yourself.

9. wet sounds get slapped while gooey sounds delay out into space. you try to get all the worms back in the can? it will not work with kindzadza, the sounds have escaped, you cannot contain them, they combine in so many ways as they run rampant. the deep bass note tickles my insides. and its all about the shiney, slippery, goo gun. everything is put in the blender and kicked back out in a new pulsing flavour, a vibrating bending crunchy sound happens to distract you when the track really starts to take off, the final lap around the rubber room, voices from your past and fluids from interdimensional folds pour out onto your head and you are transformed somewhat into a transparent hologram as they shut the door.

overall a madcap collection of psychedelic blow-outs! dark, evil, swirling madness! favorites 1, 2, 3, 4, and 9

Puro's contribution is the star attraction - delicious gooey forest trance the way it's meant to be... Ka Sol delivers an okay tune in their style. Derango shows some early promise with a real head-twister, but better stuff comes later. That's about it - the rest sounds kind of dated or something.
