Ok, so I am sick and fucking tired of movies, commercials, everything - the relative volume difference between a part with dialogue and a part with music is overwhelming.

I use my PC and monitors for watching movies, and I also live in an appt where I don't like to annoy the shit out of the neighbors, so I have to jump up every couple of minutes like a rabid monkey to either turn up or down the volume - when I can hear what people are actually saying its all good, but when music comes in its like I'm hosting a house party, but when I go and turn the volume down...then I can't hear shit when the music does stop.

compound this with Murphy's Law and you have a very frustrating movie watching experience.

Is there a way to have all the audio on my system (and not just in my DAW!) limited so that it never goes above a certain threshold? My ears and neighbors would be incredibly thankful.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

It really sucks.
Speacilly when it's an action movie. You can notice the difference on the gun shot parts, and the dialogues.

Either way, I can't see any solutions...

Well, if you have two different soundcards (A,B) you could use A for movie playback and send its output to B. Then you could use a program like FLstudio and run the output of card B in a mixer track where you could load a limiter.
Or you could buy a cheap hardware limiter for about 150eu.

Cheers!

Some receivers have dynamics control. I personally prefer to watch the movies "as the director intended them to be"           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

windows movie player has a limiter function, but it's really laggy and slow, but it does do te trick if you are playing loud and can live with the volume being turned down abit too far on peaks...           www.xun.dk / myspace.com/xundk
