Hi folks.
I am having lot of trouble working on Cubase. I just upgraded my system, at the moment my PC is: atlon 2.4ghz, motherboard Asus a7n8x-x, 80gb HD, videocard Gforce 4, creative soundcard, and 512mb RAM ( two old ddr of 256mb). I went to this "specialist" and he installed everything to me, and also did a RAM TEST the result was that one of my ddr devices was fucked up(i used to hv 1g RAM), so i am using just those two of 256 and they hd success in the RAM test. The thing is that my system got better ,i am not hving clips anymore, i can work great with vsts BUT in cubase, as far as the track goes, getting many vsts , cubase starts to fuck up. Things start to fail, like when i try to import audio files or add some vst, the system fuck up, and i hv to save and connect again, so i keep working and tweaking, but if i need to do something like import/add vst/etc the system fuck up again.. :/ This happen until the system cant handle anymore..When this happen, everytime i try to open the track it doesnt work, and i have to drop the track and start another. I have even tried to freeze all vsts but it still doesnt work.Thing stay the same crap. This is happening only in cubase and not just in this track. Sometimes windows say that virtual memory is too low and it will increase amount.. I tried many different settings, including those TIPS of musicxp.net but it didnt work. Is my system missing good quality/amount of RAM or is it soundcard or ??? Maaan i am getting nuts, i am very satisfied with cubase ( i just moved from flstudio) but im havig a hard time to find the stable killer place to produce :/
Do u guys hv a light??Do i need to spend more money buyg ram or a professional soundcard or this is some tweaking problem?
I also tried different versions of cubase..
THANK U

Every computer has a limit with the amount it can do, and it might be that you are just trying to push yours too far. More RAM will help this but only up to a point; it is generally accepted that 1GB is a sensible amount of memory to use for music, although it's certainly more than possible to use 512MB (as I did for a long time). Also if your RAM is old it might well not be very fast, and this will also have a bad impact on your system performance and stability.

How many VSTs or audio tracks can you run at the same time without it falling over?           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

Hey! Well it starts failing after about 7 or 8 vsts. After that cubase things start to get real ugly.. What makes me more confuse is the fact that even with all the instruments freezed it still happen..
:/
Thanks Colin

Even if you freeze a VSTi, the plugin still takes up space in the system memory. Try bypassing and turning off each plugin from the instrument rack and seeing if it makes any difference. Also try unloading each plugin from the rack once you've bounced it.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

Surely it can't be a vst overload. I use on practically the same system (but in FL) about 8 vsti's, 30-50vst's and 80 audiotracks in 1 project (and I stil have 15% cpu and 350mb ram (of the 786 I have) unused. Make sure that you don't have too many heavy reverb or delay or just the wrong vst on I guess.

Yeah but the thing is that Flstudio5 here is much smoother than cubase. My tracks in Cubase starts to fail in about 7/8 vsts and get completly fucked up when goes more than 11/12 and I have heavy tracks in flstudio that didnt work well with my old pc settings, but with the upgrade they are working very fine, with many more vsts. Thats the point, i dont figger why is just with cubase. Its also not the driver i believe, im using asio kx . boom

Go into the VST Multitrack devices window, and click on Expert. Make sure the 'use lower latency' box is unticked. Also, if the audio priority box shows anything less than 'normal', set it to 'normal' or even 'high'. Does this help?           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

What about the pre load amount, what is the best setting? The lower latency was already off! Should i also maybe change the audio priority to low?

The pre-load amount help stop stuttering when you first press play, and I think it can also help when you're in cycle mode. Not really relevant for you here. Low audio priority will probably make things worse for you but hey, can't hurt to try!           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

bounce down, save and get back to it later when you want to improve it...visace cycle
of bouncing, but its the best way dealing with lack of cpu...
