well, this isn't exactly about System 7, its about one of the performers within the duo, Steve Hillage. I bought two of his solo albums after his works within the bang Gong. The two albums I bought 'Rainbow Dome Musick' and 'Motivation Radio', i like this stuff, it's kinda like Pete Bardens' solo stuff, he's from Camel, my favorite of his stuff is "seen one earth'.

Well, I just wanted to see if anyone else has interest in these folks? I thought this would be the best place to put this post up, cause ambient and chill out fits this genre best, even though its more prog-space-art rock. all in all, well hell, later

I saw System7 play the other weekend in Leeds at Cabbage and very good they were too - good banging psychedelic techno that seemed to be played pretty much live - with some excellent guitar over the top.

I've alwys liked Steve Hillages stuff - him, Gong Here & Now (old UK free festival band) and Hawkwind were very popular where I grew up north of Manchester- probably all the mushrooms round there!

Personaly i prefer his later solo stuff- Live Herald is well worth getting, but the great extra studio side from the original dbl live album is now on the Open CD - again well worth looking for - he was messing about with sequenced synths in the mid 70s!!

Of course- Rainbow Dome Musick, besides being one of the first electronic ambient pieces ever (1979) is a true classic dive in.

What I like about Steve & Miquette is that they always do their thing, regardless of genres and trends, they're totally open minded and they make amazing music. Real musicians.
I'm very anxious to see them live...           ---------------------------------------------

back in 97 --- picked up rainbow dome musik at a yardsale! that night on several paper squares and a pile or so of empathy-- that record made me and my girl melt into the carpet and feel like we were salamanders inside a gigantic swirly diamond kaleidoscope waterslide spectrum. i have the clear vinyl of that one, makes rainbows on the wall when played in sunlight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! its on alex paterson's top ambient albums ever! mine too, if i ever get turntables again, that ones in my flightcase.

other system 7! fire and water were great albums... today the water disc still holds its own. though i havent played a vinyl in a year or so, i ave a couple 777 records which i remember to be deep psy chill bombs back in the day.
theres also a few releases that were orb rmx that were so sweet... the roots of ott, etc.?!?

wouldnt say its the first ambient album ever, i mean, look at Oxygene, even earlier, Deserted Palace (another JMJ), or even John Cage, Brian Eno, etc. But we wont get into all that. Theres a lot of roots out there, and I respect them all. they all have great sounds, sometimes some have to be more open minded bout stuff, but i think we can all agree on that.

I recommend you all to check out Camel's "snow goose" and Pete Barden's "Seen One Earth". Of course theres others I can list, I just bought a Magic Mushroom Band cd, 'space collections', and a Roger Eno cd,'the flatlands'.

found this awesome cd store down in Chinatown, Philadelphia, and they have 3 floors, 2 floors off just a never ending cd collection, the first floor is kinda like this second hand boombox-tv stereo type store, you know those equipments are stolen when you see them. but still really awesome store, cant wait to get some extra cash to go buy some more kraftwerk, they have an amazing collection there!

well, cya
