Ok so I have a virus TI but it's just like a bunch of VSTs, nothing really that special IMO say compared to the Minitaur or the DSI Mopho sitting next to it.

I have the cash for either a DSI Poly Evolver PE keyboard or a Moog Voyager XL ($5K is my budget).

I'm thinking the moog but wanted to check on your thoughts?

and yes I already have Adam monitors & a soundcard/Audio interface thingy I can't remember (am on holidays) it cost like $2.5K.

So which keyboard synth thing you reccomend?

I'm giving my TI to a friend for free.           Cuntus Maximus.

the Poli Evolver is great for sure, was playing around alot with it..but i would say the moog definatly has more kind of nasty sound. The evolver has lots of modulation options. Both are great but i would prefer the voyager as well..           -------......-------...-..-..-..-.-.-.-.-

I sold my TI and got a Virus C. Sounds just as good and does all I want it to.
The TI is hugely overpriced imo.
So think about that when wanting the Virus sounds, I got a mint condition Virus C for 450€.

Now regarding the two synths in question.
They are very different and I mean right across the board different.

The Voyager XL is a beast, sounds fantastic and has lots of semi modular action going on that will have you sound designing for years with pleasure, BUT, its a "traditional" full analog mono synth.

With 5K you can get the PolyEvolver which is a hybrid synth with Wavetables, and covers a very wide area of sounds beyond the traditional analog realm. And of course its an analog as well as digital polyphonic synth.
Curtis chips, not that great, but overall it is quite a unique sounding synth.
And you can also get the Voyager RME used.

I would suggest for you to get the PolyEvolver and a Voyager RME. Ok so you won't have the modular action of the XL going on, but you'll have both synths.
And bare in mind that you can expand your RME in the future, XL style http://www.moogmusic.com/products/minimoog-voyagers/vx-351-cv-output-expander-minimoog-voyager

The PolyEvolver is discontinued afaik, so it will hold its re sale value in the future.

Having said that, and bare in mind I own a Slim Phatty, a Moog MF-102 and a Moog MF-108 and I love them to death and also ordered a Moog Minitaur, the Moog gear is quite overpriced, especially when you look into the Voyager XL. With 5K you can build a modular that leaves the Voyager standing in every aspect, except the "boutiqueness" factor.

Think about it cause its a lot of cash.

modular ! 5K you could make a crazy mono with lot of different flavor of filters and oscillators omg... just thinking to it ..but damn that lot of cash , everyhting seems overpriced with what we are used to get with plugins.

depend what music you make and sound your after..i find virus is perfect for lot of sound used in trance..i could sell 3/4 of my plugins if i had a virus and i think it s just what i m gonna do with a snow or desktop

They are plug ins in a box but damn good sounding ones, with knobs and shit

Yeah cheers for all the feedback, I'm gonna go with DSI Poly Evolver PE Keyboard for now.

I'm going to then consider sellinghte Minitaur & Mopho, get a performance or standard Moog Voyager and then can add on some bits later if I feel the need to upgrade.

I'll have an awesome mono & an awesome poly synth out of the box.

I think they'll both run well with my controller (Akai APC40), my fav soft synths (Omnishphere & d16 Phoscyon).

I don't make much psy at all. Actually currently most my work is just adding stuff for a few local bands etc. & performing on stage with a freestyle jazz/funk band.

EDM wise I'm making more Detroit style techno, as well as the Bedrock style of deep house & techno.

I'm starting to get back into my forest psy stuff (Parvati, Mighty Quinn, Moon Koradji & Sanaton). I think the DSI Poly will be good for adding to the forest stuff. Maybe not so much the Moog.           Cuntus Maximus.

You can get some wild FM modulation sounds from the Moog for the forest stuff, plus a great squelching VCF. An MF-102 will give you crazy mod sounds as well.

If you want to modulate more your minitaur I sugest the CP-251, its not so expansive and expands a lot your minitaur possibilities, also very easy to use.

The bad thing about the CP-251 is that it has no MIDI sync.

It will work, but then you are well within the price range of a modular. Don't get me wrong, I love the Moog sound, but it is overpriced especially when you are looking into additional gear to extend the modulations possible.

You are right, I sugested these since he already owns the Minitaur. I'm on vacation on Munich and there is a really big stere here, called Hieber Lindberg, they have lots of synths and I asked about the Poly Evolver, the guy told me they took it out of the shelves couse the knobs where having trouble so I sugest trying them out before buying. And also for the Minimoog price, if your wish is to full modular there is also Doepfer and the GRP A4. They have one in the store but unfortunatelly I couldn't try it out, it was the last one and already sold, but I'm pretty sure it's a hell of a machine.

True that, make sure the DSI synth you are getting has pots and not encoders.
