We always make questions on synths and on how to tweak them,

but i would like to open this topic, to collect knowledge on synths as objects,

this means that whoever has any idea of where they came from, which was the first one, who invented them, who were the first ones to use them (not necessary psytrance)
and where is it all taking us, what will be the future of sound modulation and synthezisers.

also valid to comment on VSTS on their history and their present and future.

So feel free to post anything you know about these Toys which we love so much!!!

Synths history is really the story of the guys who invented certain techniques and then the companies that licensed their work.
Then a side path to those are the early computer musicians and that having to wait 40 years for computers to get fast enough.

Analogs/VA/subtracive are basically Bob Moog and Don Buchla.

FM - John Chowning and Yamaha.

physical modelling - Karpalus, Julius O. Smith/Stanford University and Yamaha.

Computer music - Iannis Xenakis, bunch of professors from 40 years ago, Steinberg.

As far as the future, we basically have the techniques to make any sound. The only thing left for the future is better user interfaces to make access to these techniques easier more and intuitive..while we can theoretically make any sound imagineable, the process for some sounds is anything but intuitive.

there is a documentary out there on the creation of the Moog. i really recommend it. it explains the conception of the patch cord synth and later on the mini Moog. here is a link.
