!A little help with sound desing!

Could anyone share some tips on how to synthesize some weird, surreal atmospheres please?
(the type of stuff that runs on the back ground in more mystic music, that takes you to another dimension)

Sound design can be complex, time consuming and a world of experimentation,, i don't really wanna get to hang up on that for the time, as i am more concentrated in learning music theory, BUT, once in a while i will create some back grounds, for inspiration!

(as an example)
Do you use low octave single note pads with whatever effects on, kinda thing?

Peace
Luis

most of the sounds can be transformed into pads simply by adjusting lenght of attack and release.. Play with lfos and modulations if ur into some more psychedelic stuff.. U dont want them to be too low so they dont interfere with bass but if theyre just on intro, breakdown than you can go low as you want..           http://www.facebook.com/xrayzproductions

OK, then!

Some sounds with long attack, lfos and modulation!

(If it's too low we cut the low end off, no prob!)

Thanks brother!

If any of you feel like to add anything else , please do. It'll be much appreciated!

yeah u can cut it, no problem, but if u can, try to fix it in the source so u dont loose too much of lower harmonics..
play with sustain and decay also, u can combine pads and exchange them in time with the use of these two..
dont forget u can also sidechain them if u like that groove.. gating, filtering also..
triplets go great with pads, experiment with chords..           http://www.facebook.com/xrayzproductions

Take short natural sounds. Time stretch back and forth to some crazy lengths, several times, over and over. You'll get some digital artifacts that way. Reverse, add phasers, flangers, delays, reverbs, pretty much anything to taste. Filter and stack on top of another or several others. Perhaps automate the filters. Render.

That's a recipe I use sometimes for odd strange atmospheric stuff. Natural 'found' sound will have much more complex waveforms than anything you could synthesize easily.

Make long sounds that change threw time! Tweak and automate the vst's
Try getting a synth with a lot of oscillators, and bring them in and out, making the sound mutating over time! Put some effects on it, and make the parameters change over time!

To make psychedelic sounds is not about making a perfect sound, but to make a sound change in perfection.. that makes the listener curious while listening to it, because of the interesting changes!!

If you don't want to use too much time on this, just try the Absynth plugin... It's not the same thing as synthesizing your own sound, but it will do the trick
