Hello
I have another general question, another attempt to start more of a general discussion rather than getting a straight answer..
My question is regarding designing plucks and leads, mainly for short licks or melodies.. like for use at the end of 8 bars or just before a 'drop'..
Obviously this is entirely up to personal preference and choice, and some people might not even like using leads in this way, but I'm interested to know how people go about making their leads.. personally at the moment I just screw around with wave forms and options like detune and filter envelopes with some automation till I get what I want..
What do you people use? Im getting quite a nice sound out of Cronox 3 at the moment.. I like how rough the filter sounds and the detune options available on each oscillator. What else is recommended? I suppose these sounds can be made with the simplest oscillators. Im looking for old analogue sounds.. most of the time made from very simple waveforms and the right modulation.. I just have not found the right combo's yet if you know what I mean?
..basically every sound you here in these tracks thats not a percussion hit or such.
Also, I really like the thick wide plucks and stabs that fill the track up.. they are quite far in the background, filtered quite low, with a lot of reverb.. but add such a nice 'pad-like' sound.. so smooth
Any input would be appreciated

I'd suggest to apply a little bitcrush on your plucks.
That's what they all seem to do.
Access Virus is great for these sounds, as well for all your stab and pad needs for this type of Progressive Psy.
If you want to stick to vst, I would go with Diversion, Sylenth1 and or Dune.

Bounce down the dry sounds, then add processing as wanted. As audio it is easy to add a few different fx's or distortions to the sound, rebounce them, reverse them etc etc.
Just make a few channels with revb/ delay where you put all the individual sounds.

I hear allot of Sylenth1 in the main hook (5.12).

As I read in the other thread you use Sylenth1(one more thing we have in common besides the artists we listen to:D), so do I
I suggest the distortion section when u are satiesfied with a lead sound, all of them are worth a try, but decimate with moderate amount and low/moderate wet/dry produces a certain sound I guess you have heard before;)
Also bandpassfilter and then modulated with (fast) lfo
I just started getting into synthesis deeper as I fully understand all synthsizer controls maybe 3 or 4 months ago but one thing is bad about the sylenth, a poor modulation matrix, nevertheless an awesome synth
Oh and maybe instead of common delay 1/8 1/16 and so on you could use a delay with ms...this also very nice for percussions
