okay children (ha), i'm getting really close to buying my first synthesizer, but i don't know which one i want. there are a couple i've been looking into.
*roland jp8000 - looks good, but i'm afraid of it's 8 voice polyphony *clavia nord lead 2 - i'm interested. but i read some bad reviews on it. *access virus kb - it's so expensive. should i wait and save up for it?
please help me... btw i'm looking for a synth so i can get more creative in my music. (i can't stand being confined to mouse clicks) |

*roland jp8000 - looks good, but i'm afraid of it's 8 voice polyphony - r u sure? sounds very strange to me. anyway its one of the best synths on the market with a very warm and round sound but getting a bit outdated. *clavia nord lead 2 - i'm interested. but i read some bad reviews on it. - not fammiliar enough with it but I too have heared bad things. *access virus kb - it's so expensive. should i wait and save up for it? - worth the money.

IMHO: JP 8000 - Not quite impressive, right concern about polyphony, cool to work with, though.
Nordlead 2 - Not impressive at all, lacking vital features such as velocity sensitivity. BTW - There's already a Nordlead 3, which is better, but costs like the Virus.
Virus kb - Great synth, easy to work with, great sound and features (like FX, vocoder, velocity sense). If you don't have to have the keyboard, you can buy the Virus B, which is less expensive. oh, and about Virus A, there's only a keyboard-less version, and access, the Virus' company, doesn't update Virus A's operation system, which is a crucial factor to consider before buying Virus A (meaning, you won't get new features & bug repairs).
BTW - You should also check out Novation's Nova and Supernova, and waldorf's TX. They are good synths, and not extremely expensive.
Hope i helped, Tom.

WHERE CAN YOU GET A JUNO 106 IN NOWADAYS ?!?? I WANT ONE TOO !!!
Now seriously, the juno 106 is really a great synth. It's not fully analog, but the sound... SO fat ,SO full... Oh, and if you do eventually get one, i don't think it will be sufficient for you as a stand-alone synth. I mean, you would still need to get another synth (the Virus :-)).

JP 8000 - 8 voice polyphony ain't make no difference cuz it's all about it's twisted filters and one and the only FEEDBACK WAVE that I haven't met yet the synth that will produce this kind of sound
Nordlead - Very nice synth OVERLY OVERUSED AND ABUSED AND DONE WITH
VIRUS - Better in some ways than the Nord but still OVERLY OVERUSED AND ABUSED AND DONE WITH TWICE
Supernova - A good one, with some very PHAT sounds but POOR filter and osc section - works only on Square and Saw waves so it's sound is not VERY changeable.. DIG?
WALDORF - XT has superb sounds and wild filters, it is the ONLY synth that stands against the JP ( ofcourse we talk the same price range )

Thanks everyone. It's really difficult for me to check out these synths in person. Where I live the synthesizer selection is crap. All I can find in stores is the Korg MS2000 and the Triton plus a few other workstations. |

Listen here my man....... You can dream about those machines because if it's your first machine you won't understand a thing.
Try to buy a groove-box for the begining or buy youself a cool groov-synth like a VIRUS machine... |

Slavinhauser,
The one above me isnt very precise I would say,
There will b no problem for u to use ANY of those machines cuz all of them well adjusted to todays technology and have a lot of knobs u can turn and PHAT tutorials u can dive in - all of them real time controlled in most of the parameters u would dream of.
Last thing that u need now is one of the GROOVEBOXES which are just a fatal trap, unless u look for a synth-sequencer.
Again, it's like buying a cheap Hi Fi all in one which usually is so complex that almost nothing works - and don't mention using that with other synth on the same midi card - NO WAY
So NEVER go for the GROOVEBOXES of any kind especially not the ROLAND ones..
That was a VERY PERSONAL opinion though |
