I'm looking for tips on how to sync 4 computers (all running Ableton). I found a 4x4 midi sync device ( http://www.zzounds.com/item--MDOMID4X4AE ), but not really interested in spending that much money.

Has anyone here done this or know of someone who's done it before? Does anyone know of other ways that work besides midi sync (like midi over lan)? Any info in general would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like midi over lan would be a way to go. Has anyone used these programs?

Hehe

I know people have done this before for live sets, I'm basically looking to find out what the problems are with midi over lan.           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

There should be no problems with midi over ethernet. I have done it successfully with a c/24...           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

From what I've been told by the people who have done this is you basically link the computers up through midi over lan, get the metronome going and adjust the latency to match the beat. Simple enough, hope it works out           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

The times we'v tried to sync computers over midisport( midi lan) and adjust latency manualy it just isnt perfecty synced to the master midi clock .

Although the minimal diffrences -that are audible-, this will not stop you from jamming with a few computers.

Hope that ableton adresses this in the future, to make a way that locks external computers perfect to the masters internal midi clock.

Maybe someone has a better way of doing this?

cheers

Well, the real deal would be to get a midi clock and sync it in a star pattern, daisy chaining would indeed create too much midi latency.           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:
