Both Glastonbury and Bonaroo have both already happened so if you are gong to either of these your are going to need a TIME MACHINE and Deloreans are going for $15K MINIMUM...
Not to mention you will have to research and develop a flex capacitor and find some enriched uranium... Don't cross those terrorists either... You know what happens...

you're a born comedian.
the artist cost at Bonnaroo is at least 100x what the lineup at Symbiosis costs. i wouldn't say anything if Symbiosis was $120/$150 at the door, which is how much i think it's worth - unless you're going to announce Richie Hawtin, STS9, David Byrne, and the Beastie Boys next week.
Plus it seems all these festivals across North America that all feature the same acts (Bassnectar, Glitch Mob, Shpongle, Vibesquad, etc.) have been raising the ticket prices A LOT. I don't know, maybe it's their strategy to deal with the recession - figuring so many people are poor/out of work that they have to jack up the ticket prices because the attendance will be so low. ..it's just another party.. |

SUNBURN, Goa, India
December 2009
Sunburn Festival launched in December 2007 as south Asia's first electronic music festival, and featured heavyweights like Carl Cox and John '00' Fleming. Located seaside in Goa, on India's west coast, the festival has its roots in "Goa Trance," a type of pulsing, transcendental electro music that became popular in the early 1990s. Sunburn again treated over 5,000 electro revelers to a three-day party by the beach in December 2008. The festival's founder has said Sunburn will always be free to attend, and it is not to be missed if you happen to be in India in December. |
|
Yes, the lineup named is definitely not a goa trance lineup (although John OO Fleming is all about the psy these days - and his stuff definitely has goa flare even though I know most people here will automatically hate him because he's too "mainstream").
But they do mention that Goa India is the home of "Goa Trance" in the article, which I think is more than Goa Trance has ever received... mention on CNN.

Are there any sponsors involved in Bonnaroo?

THAT IS EXACTLY RIGHT. Organizers see the feedback???? Now respond to it. |

i am not sure. i do know Bonnaroo gets 80,000 people every year, which allows them to have a ridiculous lineup like that on multiple stages, which is the only way you can manage to have that many people at a festival.
but i am not telling anyone to be like Bonnaroo, we need smaller, more underground festivals too. I say rather than try to be like the large festivals and book 120 acts only for a limited attendance, they can keep the lineups at 40-50 acts and the admission prices lower, in line with the more underground vibe and music.
but if you're charging that much for attendance, then at least provide a lineup that is going make people not care about paying that much for a weekend of music.

Seriously though, stop booking Posford. If I wanted to listen to Gamma Goblins for 15 minutes, I'll take a does of stupid and grab my cd case from eons ago. The guys music is great to listen to at home but it's so outdated and boring for a party.
I didn't notice the price when I posted my first reply but I agree with Lawrence here, that is ridiculous. Wonder how much the costs would come down if just ONE year you didn't book Simon and added some good locals that have a nice draw.

actually, try hearing a Hux Flux live set. compare to Simon's, then you'll know what sounds "outdated". but Hux Flux is so much more underground and cool, right? so it must be better. |

Pseudo Logic...
Just because another artist is MORE outdated than Posford; doesn't automatically mean that Posford's set is MODERN.
Now I haven't said anything bad about Posford, I love the guy's music honestly.
But that said, even as a fan of his, I know that there are PLENTY of Psytrance artists who are doing a lot more modern stuff than he is.

hux flux IS more underground and cool. yes, better music than posford, IMHO... for psytrance, at least.
when i saw hux flux in oregon in 2002, his set was already several years "out of date," hardest dancing evar, loved it

hux flux released their second album at the end of 2003, with the first release being in 2000. so you caught them in their prime when they were still cutting edge. heard them side by side with modern producers just last year and the music was horribly outdated and flat - Hux Flux's greatest hits minus any sort of remixing or remastering. I've also heard Simon play more than once during the same time period - both trance and downtempo - and his music maintains a pristine level of sound quality without the musical redundancy that you might expect. he's still churning out fresh music, while hux flux hit a road block after the second album. my point is that all the posford bashers would probably drool over the opportunity to hear somebody like hux flux, depriving themselves of quality in favor of novelty and presumed stylishness. and this coming from a hux flux fan. |

Last time I heard Flux was in Bombay, I can't remember the exact year but I guess they were, in what you call, their "prime".
Why would think I'd be happier with Hux Flux on the line up? At least with Posford I can understand a semi-higher price per ticket, lol.
Depriving myself of quality in favor of novelty and presumed stylishness? Wow... Guess you got me all figured out eh?

That's seriously all that's coming to my mind reading what you just wrote.

nothing wrong with a little friendly debate, albeit a tired one. anyways, nothing personal - no need to get snappy. |
