See if you can spot me in bright orange in any of the pics/vids from Sunday!!
I really wanna join in the discussion with Paradigm and Zariat, but perhaps some things are better left unsaid.
I'm glad we got as much trance as we did. |

You guys are hilarious....
Paradigm... You bailed on giving a ride to the airport for Koxbox... Lame... Are you going to pay for half your ticket or just talk shit?
I had a great time... I love progressive trance... and if anyone would like to produce a trance festival in NoCal, let me know... I'd be happy to buy a ticket...

Additionally... If you talked about Symbiosis and didn't mention the art by Dan Das Man, the Tree of Life, the Ladder Tree, the Last Tree standing, art by the Do LaB, live painting by Dreaming Co:Nexus, Alex and Allyson Grey, Oliver Vernon, Mars-1, David Choong Lee, talks by Fritjof Capra, Alex Grey, Starhawk, James Stark, yoga 3 times a day, Capoeria, Os Mutantes, Coco Rosie, over 20 interactive art installations, and stage deco never before seen in the US... you missed the point...
You can lead Paradigm to a transformative experience, but you can't make him think... |

I'd have to say i enjoyed some of the other non trance music a lot this year, but i think having 3 stages other than Alt stage to play with, we coulda had a psytrance stretch at least one of the middle nights (Fri sat sun) oh well.....everything else was awesome
i think if we look at the overall production, these guys are bringing a truley unique blend of music, art and many things to the table. a production of that magnitude is always gonna have some operational flaws and not everybody is gonna be happy with the music at all times....but hey its work in progress, look at their 2 year leap from angles cap......
I do wanna say that numbers did not look bad at all during psytrance stretches on the dancefloor.....sunday was definitley packing good numbers, and friday night many people were still arriving and setting up and the alt stage was a bit tucked away.
unrelated to these discussions, i been talking with a few friends about a possible bi-monthly pure psytrance outdoor gig in northern cali. we are checking on a few venue possibilities and would love to hear any feedback from you all regarding what you like to hear, what u can possibly contribute and help with on a regular basis, and any other inquiries if you like to possibly get involved. we realize that pulling together regular psy events is looking real tough, but we think the numbers and demand is here. gemini is a great example of a total community effort thats been going for so long. if anyone wants to have a private discussion get at me with a pm. Thanks

I love the symbiosis crew. They are responsible for the best party of my life, Symbiosis 06. But i didnt go to this one for a few reasons. Trance.... NOT REPRESENTED! All cali psy heads have seen most of these trance acts/djs before. I feel we are a big foundation and helped make the outdoor electronic music scene possible and get little love for it (mininal mainstage time, musical respect). Who else drives as far and as often for a 12-48 hr outdoor party than we do?
Dubstep, glitch, house etc, all good indoor music for a night of drinking and hookin up w/ random strangers . But not for 5 days outdoor in the woods on spiritual chemicals.
The spot looked ridiculously epic and i sure the vibe was killer. I just miss the days of dancing for 6-12 hrs in a straight frenzy, and having my mind absolutely blown by epic music. Remeber the Days of sprinting to the dancefloor when an act came on?
I dont feel like bopping up and down, talking, hangin out and looking at nice (granted its epic) scenery is enough to make me go to a party anymore. Its not just about the people and vibe, THE MUSIC IS CRUCIAL TOO!!!! They must go together. Its nice all styles come together at this party, but it seems true that its become more showy and fluffy to fill the neohippy sensation and less about cutting through the B.S. (which psys and psytrance allows)
This is just my perception for myself and what i want out of the scene. I DONT WANT EVERYONE to be a clone and want the same type of experience using the same kinds of music. The last thing i want in this in this world is a limit on the ways you can "get there".

Never has been but I think it sounds like a beautiful festival. I wouldn't have went in thinking of it as a psytrance festival anyways though. I might have checked out some trance but would have really been checking out other types of music, workshops and etc.. Hope to be able to make it out one year..

Yes Witchdokta... I have heard of Gemini and I look forward to next years event.
To be clear... In no way do I, nor does Symbiosis claim to be, the only or the best trance event out there... This is not a pissing contest...
The idea of Symbiosis is that differing segments of our community coming together to support one another and to create something much more magical than the sum of its parts.
Symbiosis is not specifically trance, nor dubstep, nor breaks, nor dub, nor downtempo, nor workshops, nor art, nor deco, nor yogish, nor anything else.
If you want to say, "Symbiosis is not a trance festival," I completely support you in saying that. We are not anything... We'd rather be a cornicopia of our community here to bind together seemingly disparate entities into a more powerful movement. It seems that in our current situation, both ecological and political, we can all make more of a difference by celebrating our commonalities rather than championing our differences.
I never claimed that Symbiosis is a psytrance event. Its not! We will leave the psytrance events to the psytrance producers, who are an endangered species in modern NoCal.
If its an identity thing and folks REALLY need to hold fast to their vibe because they feel threatened then great... YOU GUYS ARE THE TRANCERS. YOU GUYS TRANCE WAY HARDER THAN US. YOU GUYS ARE THE SCENE. IF I THINK OF TRANCE I THINK OF YOU GUYS... I'm really not concerned with that. If people on this list don't think that I'm a REAL TRANCER, I couldn't care less...
I love music. I love life. I love community.
I am in Symbiosis because I want to set a place at the table for community in our home which is Symbiosis and YOU ARE INVITED.
If I fight with someone... I'd rather fight Monsanto who is selling terminator seeds to poor folks all over the world so developing nations become dependent on Monsanto.
I'd rather fight Coco-Cola who is acquiring the rights to suck all of the water on the earth so they can bottle and sell what is rightfully the resources of the people.
If we have to fight trancers because "Symbiosis doesn't have enough trance to be called a trance event" then none of this matters anyway, because we've already lost.
If the only thing you did at Symbiosis was listen to music, then we failed you. If you didn't notice the 150 people outside for Fritjof Capra's talk, if you didn't notice that the food was fully organic, if you didn't realize their was yoga, if you didn't see the art, then we failed you.
THIS EVENT WAS NOT ABOUT THE MUSIC! Symbiosis is an experience... NOT A TRANCE FEST. We have trance but it is only a part of the whole package. You need an entire engine to drive the vehicle that we are attempting to move and trance is only a part of it.
About the feather, leather folks... get over it. Who cares? Why does it matter what other people wear? Are you not confident about who you are? Its like freaking high school. Sure people dress up in hippie bling, sure they hang out in packs, but it looks like Paradigm here is as isolated as they are.
Quote:
| "I have never felt such like a second class citizen at a event. We were given the worst stage, with the smallest sound, in the dustiest area, in the back corner.
Very segregated, I almost felt like a black man, in the 50's at this party. " |
|
This quote is idotic and offensive and could only be uttered by a privileged, self important, entitled, uneducated, insensitive, snotty child who has no idea what segregation is about. Why don't we ask a older african-american about this quote? Did we burn a cross on your land? Did we refuse you work? Did we disallow you access to water or food on account of your birth?
PARADIGM! I DEMAND YOU TO TAKE THIS QUOTE BACK! UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU JUST CLAIMED HERE!!!!
Remember... the only person that segregated you IS YOU! We welcome you to come to any stage at any time and IF YOU CAN'T HANDLE ANY OTHER MUSIC, THEN YOU ARE SEGREGATING YOURSELF.
We set up the stages so that each genre moved from stage to stage. We had trance on the Sub stage, we had it on the Lake stage, we had it on the main stage. The idea is KEEP MOVING, there is an entire world to explore...
You don't have to get what we are trying to do, but I hope you do. I hope you can stick your head outside of the box every once in a while and remember that we are more powerful working together than fighting each other.
The choice is up to you... You know where to find me... |

Give me a break. No blood has been shed here, no children have lost their parents, no one has lost use of their limbs. This conversation is so distant from blood.
At the worst, we may have hurt feelings because Paradigm said something horribly insensitive and uneducated.
This IS the point. We are not creating events to have people trance out in a blissful state. We create to wake people up and if you can't handle the truth of our time then turn away and put your headphones on. |

PS... The waste was hauled away by Moore Bros. who have been servicing waste for Camp Mather festivals for over 20 years.
They said that in their service history, they have never seen recycling better separated... EVER! They were also flabbergasted at how little content ended up in the trash after an event with over 5000 people.
I know because I was there... picking up the trash and making Camp Mather look as nice as when we arrived. Thanks for being mindful... |

Hey be free or who ever you are. We are awake and well thank you. Paradigm said how he felt at YOUR event. There was a reason he said that.
So now from that you can ether take that and try to change for your other events...
Or you can go the other way like you do and say " We are not creating events tohave people trance out in a blissful state ".
I appreciate it that you are trying to wake people up. I think we kinda awake, some more some less obviously. That is a good cause for sure educate people to art, organic food, different sorts of music and culture. Yes I get a mini BM. I think it is a great idea. But again you came here to a trance forum where people like, discuss, listen, enjoy trance. And you have said, here is an event-music so and so -workshops so and so -art so and so. Trance so and so and did not deliver(I was not there can only judge by the reviews).
So I think that is the problem people here are having.
Yes when people that like Dub would like to hear mostly Dub. People that like Rap would mostly like to hear Rap. And also we who like Psy will mostly like to hear Psy.
The message THIS FORUM GIVING YOU IS please include more Psy at your next event. If you dont want to, You dont have to it is your event... You and the community that attends makes it what it is.
That is all. |

Yeah it was pretty obvious you love progressive trance by the line up. lol
Why is it so hard for you to understand the difference between Psytrance and Progressive? They are two totally different Genres.
Sorry but I am tired of people acting like this is the same type of music. It's not.
