WHOA artists checks bounced? Like artists as in plural artist?! That is insane. Perhaps there was too much money spent on that bangin deco (which looked really killer from the pictures) but there is NO excuse for check's bouncing for the artists who brought these people to this over priced party. So the ticket cost was uber expensive, there were tons of people there, and checks still bounced? That's nuts.

So i'll stick to trance parties...

Riiight, because trance parties are completely exempt from all shady business practices... Some trance festivals don't even pay their artists at all...

Seeing as Cinder has never left the country, I'm pretty certain he's referring to trance parties in the US. The US is pretty good about paying people or at least letting the person know up front that they will not be paid. There aren't too many places where this happens though, so be happy about that. I'm pretty certain that the whole check bouncing thing is just a minor error though, as I'm sure that if this were a real issue, the artists who's checks bounced would come on here and say so themselves... Or they would do the responsible thing and contact the organizers about this matter themselves and leave it out of the public eye.

Originally I looked at this thread as a popcorn thread, but this is getting a bit old. The event's over and done with. If you didn't like how it went down this year, don't go next year... Pretty simple if you ask me... Let the horse be buried please.           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

"WHOA" is right.

Saturnia:
My wife and I met you last year at Psychedelic Freakshow with Zen Mechanics, Aphid Moon, Menog, etc.
You seem, and from what I hear from the Cali Trance acts I book here in CO, like a wonderful person. However, posting that "check bouncing" situation in a public forum looks terrible, I'm sorry. PM info like that to the person you're attempting to contact so that it doesn't seem like you've posted it out of animosity...which it does.
I know, my lashing out at you for that here makes me no better, but I guess I'm lashing out to your public comment.
My apologies for that.

cinderVOMIT:
"overpriced party??"
Hmmmmmm.
My lady and I paid earlybird tix for only $150 each.
4 day festival, world class deco and vibe, magical space, authors/lecturers/artists/etc...I'm sorry, this gathering was a fucking steal.
People pay several hundred dollars to see Dave Matthews, Tool, Madonna, etc, and see them play for, typically at the most, 2 hours. Anyone suggesting that Symbiosis wasn't worth even the $250 at the gate, which I'm sorry to say, you were foolish in not getting the tix $100 each cheaper only a month and a half beforehand, has completely missed the intention behind this festival.

People pay $100 just to get into certain clubs to hear an "artist" like Benni Benassi, or even Deadmau5 play for like, 2 hrs. Yet pay $150-$200 for a world class, multi-day, multi-genre, true "modern era" hippie festival with multiple headlining acts from multiple different genres playing and people still bitch.
Hmmmmmm...
Again, this festival was super awesome and offered MANY different aspects to MANY different people. We certainly came away with a true Symbiosis experience.

The tendency of people to get self righteous is getting boring now..the pystrance scene in the US has all the shortcomings that are present in other genres by my personal observation..SYMBIOSIS was a PHENOMENAL effort considering US standards..props to them for pulling it off..

ps: psy shouldnt be left out next year because of this stupid banter.

the scope of SYMBIOSIS is MUCH BIGGER than GEMINI tho because of the workshops, speakers etc..so comparing them is like comparing apples and oranges..doesnt work..

considering the scale of the event..a couple of checks bouncing is no big deal as long as its dealt with appropriately..i am sure GEMINI is NOT a PERFECT event either..anyone who says it is needs to step down from high horse and smell the shit on the ground..really!!

Dubstep is NOT chill music..its IN your Face music... slowed down drum n bass mostly..

Chill music is supposed to be a soothing and relaxing alternative to the mayhem going on in the psytrance stage and dubstep DOES NOT provide that imo

My check bounced as well, however, I just want to say that the people at symbiosis events have been in contact with me regarding payment for my djing services and they informed me that there was an error in the bank account routing and it is now being taking care of. I messaged megan and she got right back to me with this information. I'm just waiting for my bank to mail me the redeposit check and all should be good.

I thought Symbiosis was incredible... it was all the cool stuff you'd want to see at Burning Man , but condensed into a forest setting with shade and water!

it was my first SG, and I have to say I was not expecting it to be what it was. I was blown away!

I have to agree with others that if you only went for music you are missing the point.

I had a blast meeting new people, looking at the million stars at night, dressing up as the Eyeball King, the workshops and lectures (Nassim Haramein was great!), the awesome food, the music from many different genres, the art and the stage decor...it was just epic.

I love psytrance as much as many people here do, but I also like other music. I personally liked how the 'sub' stage was in the back near the big field. If you think about it, all the stages were pretty separated from each other... i don't see how the sub stage was any more hidden other than it just being smaller. the sound was on point at it though.

can't wait till next year. I thought the vibe was incredible.

I think it's mostly a west coast area thing where the leather feathers exist... and they aren't all snobs...talk to one. It's just a costume like anything else. some take it serious, others are just having fun. I think they come of wrong sometimes is because a lot of them are newb party goers that latched onto something later in life and are running with it.

I feel like on the west coast, a lot of dubstep fans came from the breaks and dnb scenes where it's cool to talk shit about 4x4 genres because they apparently "take no skill to produce"

Some 17 year old kids at psymbiotek were blasting breaks from their truck and talking about how psytrance sucks all weekend. They also made threatening/derogatory comments about some transgendered individuals who were at the party. People like that don't come to psytrance-only events where such would not be tolerated by ANYONE.

Psytrance and Dubstep can be found together in CO also. Not always, but there is not squable between them.

you just don't hear the squabbles. trust me, there are plenty from both sides.

and truthfully, most people at mixed genre events start bitching after a couple of hours of either psy or dubstep.

everybody loves the technoez though.
          ..it's just another party..

@ Shiranui

I saw/heard those kids at Symbiotek, and decided against engaging them. I felt twinge of need to educate, but felt it would fall on deaf ears.

They certainly weren't at Gemini...

See, this annoys me almost as much as what they are doing. I feel like the reason the psy scene in norcal is shrinking is because most of the oldschoolers have given up on trying to bring younger people in. If younger people show up to a psy event and start acting wrong, the older people just complain, ignore them, or leave instead of trying to educate.

Oh no, don't get me wrong. I definitely speak up and attempt to educate when I can.

But to do so when you're angry or upset (or in my case - intoxicated) it can have an adverse affect.

I believe heavily in oldschoolers showing the new school how to behave. Pay it forward...
