Hm..but if your favourite Bassynth is a stereo one for example it does make sense to route it on a mono bus..

What do you mean by stereo? Do you mean it has a stereo output? This doesn't mean that the signal itself is stereo. This is the same as dual mono. Or is it actually outputting a stereo signal? (Left and right channels are not identical).

like a kick/bass group and a little bit of compression on this group..and even for mono compatibility..and to get some free space in your mix for other signals..just my opinion..

Making a dual mono signal single mono won't change the mono compatibility nor will it in any way leave more space in the mix.

yer..i mean a stereo output..its outputting a stereo signal and there is no choice of using it in mono..just with the routing on a mono group or setting the dual pan in the center..(cubase)

i mean..if its a stereo signal like pan 100% left and right and you turn the whole track into mono..the signal will almost complete disapear..so and if your bass is complete stereo..you can imagine what happens if you turn it mono..no matter if its dual mono or stereo interleaved.. if your dual mono signal is panned full left right it does effect the mono compatibility in my opinion..
Hm..and bass sound got so much energy that its more difficult to do a good panorama for other signals cause all the stereo space is used by the bass than if it is in mono..anyway it makes no real sense to me to use a stereo bass..cause human ear cannot really recognize if the bass is a little bit more right or a little bid more left..but whatever..don`t take this too serious please..everybody got its own way..and i believe you got really good results with your way and i try to get good ones..but thats what i`ve learned so far and maybe its wrong, but who really cares..
cheers

dual mono is only dual mono when both channels are identical. You cannot pan, ptherwise its a stereo channel.
As for stereo bass... Low bass, sub, I agree this should be mono. But your bass should go into the Khz range for the attack, and this can be heard to have stereo seperation... If you are very careful.(and route your bass into more then one channel, and get a bit creative with how you treat it)
I use the blockfish to put things into absolute mono, which seems to work a lot better then dfx monomaker. This can be useful on percussion samples that are not centralised or have very different energies in each channel.
Can't say I've ever used it on the bass though. It isn't needed, as if the output is not mono from the synth then there is always a way of controlling the pan of the signal on the synth.

as i understand it the bass frequencies are too low - i.e. the wavelengths are too long - to be considered properly directional. nothing wrong with playing with the stereo image of the higher frequencies, as Speakafreaka says... cloning your bassline and panning the higher element can add the feel of stereo 'fullness' without actually spreading the low and sub elements.
there's a free vst called 'basslane' which can be useful since it features a scalable cutoff:

Hey, glad you like it - I find less is more when I'm doing this sort of thing, as otherwise you can make it too middly, also it doesn't really have to be an overt sound to have a useful affect on how the overall thing sounds.
With careful application it can really help make the bass sound more 'gelled' although that is a far from perfect attempt to describe it.
I find very short panned static delays to be the best thing to do... so far There are other things I do, but they are state secrets I'm afraid!
Be sure to have a listen in mono though, as this can mash your sound when its all summed up to mono (say when you are playing on a big PA).
