I hope that the future will consist of more ambient/chillout artists releasing surround sound music DVDs/Blu-ray discs (along with the regular audio CD). It's such an immersive experience. The only good ones I've found so far are:

BT - This Binary Universe
Tipper - Surrounded
Robert Rich - Atlas Dei

But, I've also picked up a couple random ones online that were absolutely horrible. Does anybody have suggestions of other ones to check out?

I think the next step in the multimedia experience will be music albums on Blu-ray discs with HD visuals in 3D. They're supposed to release 3D-ready Blu-ray players and TVs (already some out there) this year, but like most new technologies, maybe it will be a while before the quality and price is optimized.

I'm sure it would take a long time to produce a high quality album like this, but I think it has the potential to provide the ultimate experience of the music. A lot of the artists discussed on here seem like ideal candidates to take on this expedition. I wonder who will be the first.......

I'd like to hope that CBL's new project that they showed off at the planetarium in sweden will follow the same path as TBU and do a CD release with surround sound and the audio/visual presentation.           blip.fm/itranscendence

mmmm some Ultimae dvd's in surround with good visual would be nice... but seeing as it'll be a while yet til i get a good 5.1 system set up I don't mind stereo and more releases sooner... would love anew CBL album on cd, then maybe a future DVD in surround           I hate you, you hate me, we are all so hap hap happy!

Yummy ideas. Would definitely like hear/see those. Even though Solar Fields' "Movements" album is in stereo, I can imagine it in surround. So spatial and atmospheric.

Atlas Dei has gotten a number of plays on my tv, amazing visuals and amazing music. If anyone has the chance to see Robert Rich play live, don't miss it.           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound
