I've heard of a lot of people doing psy basslines with surge lately....

yes lot of ppl using it, personally i have to dig seruiosly for basslines,
i tried so far what in the video above and came up using ESM all the way, surge was a little too thin
but i'm sure that spending some time on it is worth, not for basslines only           http://mystic-sound.com/releases/ioon-cosmic-downtempo-9314-oclock/

hmmm imo what the dude have done in the video was crap, he didnt even set the synth right...u can hear the free run from the ocilator causing phase all around and the polymode is in polymode not mono ....

just pointing it coz if u tried to copy exactly what he have done it would sound thin indeed..

yes i think it s a lot used for psybass and i think you can import your own wavetable ,i find the osc saw is a bit thin wihtout processing but envelops are goods... and yes agree esm sound 3 times phatter, more analog but it s a pain to get it right , tweak then sample the tweak again then sample ...until you get it right for that tune notes

yea its thin indeed, but i found a wave in the default wavetable from surge that sounds more "fat" for my ears...its in the warldolf submenu.... sawoct or sawarp

try it and lemme know what u guys think bout that wave

yes i remember a wavetable was more phat. if you want to make it phat anyway, try free soneq boost and cut the low end bands at same time until you find the right sweet spot (i boost less than what i cut) ,use the soneq amp saturation too.. and add something on top that add more harmonics in the low if you want to get more weight , more heavy sound and remove all the mud in the mids (if there is some, dont remmeber but i guess there is loads like on most plugs) to get the low end to shine and the bass to sound clean ...what i did lately is to check where the mud begin and where it end, then i use 2 or 3 bands to remove everyhting (usualy around 150 hz to 800 or more...)

i ve been tryin to clean and fat the bass from surge with cq1...usin one notch to boost the lows and the other band to remove the mud from the mid high..

EQ/Processing is indeed important, but you can get phat sounding bass from Surge with just a bass patch. EQ/Processing is sheen/sparkle on the top - not the innate character of the bass.

I personally have been getting much cleaner/fatter bass with less processing these days as I focus more on the patch and less on fixing it afterwards with magic bass boost software and lots of EQ.

my 2 noob cents.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

the only possible way u d be able to get a clean rolling bass out from surge without process would be if u activate the second filter as a notch and would center it around the 500 hz.... but then it would be the same as equlization or u can try new methods, like band compress the shit out of those harsh frequencies..

unless u are doin the offset basses..then its another story and much easier

Ive only ever gotten good basslines using the FM oscillators in Surge. Gotta love those LFO routing capabilities though, lets you create some downright insane sounds!           http://soundcloud.com/tactile-one

I started a track with a surge bassline the other day- you can get some really gnarly sounds with the default saw. I used 2 saw oscs and did a bit of cutoff modulation with the filter env.           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound
