have you noticed that suomi tracks well maybe not most of them but quite a few of them are relatively short as compared to the standard 6.15mins trance tracks...is there any reason why this is so...           When death comes to your doorstep, make sure you are alive

I wondered for awhile about the opposite thing: is there a reason why psy trance tracks have to be ~8 min?

Cosmosis enlightened me in one of his Web casts: “standard” 256 bars at “standard” ~130 BPM amount to about 8 min. We all see examples of either one of those “standards” broken nowadays (not only in Suomi). And Suomi guys seem to be totally irreverent: most of the time (in what I’ve heard) there is no kbbb, often there is even no 4/4 kick. Some tracks sound so funky, it’s not even trance any more.

Good for them. I’d rather hear their craziness than punk-rock or gabber.

Good question gutter, and one I haven't bothered to ever ask because I... well, I guess cos I love and trust most suomi artists like they're my brother to not question what the hell they are doing.

Also, I love it when one of the tracks is 10 minutes and you don't realize it cos you're just trippin and dancin or trippin and driving or trippin and writing on isratrance then deleting it all by accident

Why have 7 minutes of boring when you can have 4 minutes of awesome? =)           nlm - http://goaconstrictor.com v4.2

Their tracks compensate quite well for their apparent shortness.
I was rolling on the floor when I heard the intro to “Lo Ding Bong” on “Different Path” – that was well worth the “missing” two minutes. Finally, it was not about Lord Shiva or cosmic consciousness or pharmacology of serotonin. It was just a Russian and a Ukrainian talking about stupid shit. And what about that thing later in the track? “I am concentrating on ... uh ... you know ... the space station.” Hilarious! Spugedelic indeed.

Long live Suomi!

one solution is that most suomi tracks have no (or very short) intros or outros. if you'd mutilate a standard psy-trance track you'd end up with about 5 mins

btw: suomi is formulaic and in it's own box like any other style. there is very little experimental stuff in this scene anymore...

That's rather surprising...
I listened to Puoskari's "Different Path" and to Calamar's "Squid Liquid" and could barely find anything in common between them. But then again - this could be just a sign of branching within a genre, with each branch having their own "formula". I haven't heard enough yet to judge on this.

One thing for sure, though - Suomi artists don't seem to take too many things seriously. Sometimes, even including their own music. I think this is great: no art will survive without humor.
