Tracklist:
SCS : Rush Hour [Wombat Edit]
SCS - Snake Shake
SCS - Kick Me Shake Me

While the colourful international mundillo of feathered hippies, horny punks, lavishly tattooed nymphets and sun-tanned asstronauts was indolently lying on the grill of a Groovy Beach, shaking their butts or tenaciously stamping holes with their feet in the dust of a sun-burnt dancefloor 7 km away from the quiet Catholic city of Idanha Nova, Iboga records committed a release that could have gone unnoticed if DNA traces could not be found identifying one of the finest producers from Down Under: Andrew Davidson aka Sun Control Species or Wombat for his housier side project. Let’s check out the flavour of this summer-ripened fruit.

1. Snake shake (Wombat edit)
This smoothie blends a nice trancey bassline which delivers an effective galloping momentum with a more techy-electro serpentine lead that wiggles up and down the scale. The scarce soaring pads combined with a fair amount of quirky infected sounds clearly situates this track in a psy-prog register that discreetly incorporates the rattles you hear these days in Techno. Nice attempt at integrating genres.

2. Rush Hour
The second piece borrows more tech-house rhythmic ideas, with a straightforward dance floor perspective, but again keeps sufficient twists and weird turns in the orchestration and the development to be firmly rooted in Psychedelia. Tasty!

3. Kick me shake me
This track is reedited from the successful debut album released last year, and truly exemplifies what soulful, uplifting trance is all about: stellar undulating reverbs, tight percussions, precise catchy riffs, elliptic melodic line, all of which nets a cool epic atmosphere. One of my favourites of the album.

Bottom line
This release is of interest for the new pieces it presents which showcase Andrew’s pristine production, as we have come to expect from this producer, and it’s hard to pick out a favourite from these two, as both illustrate different, and convincing attempts to renew musical ideas in progressive trance.
