Hi there,

Surfing the Internet, I once again came across a Website stating that Psy trance was dead and buried since 1997 because it couldn't evolve. Right.

From then on, the future of Trance was allegedly grasped by the likes of Paul van Dyk, Sasha, Oakenfold... 1000 times heard.

Those names regularly appear on Psy forums, but with a despising tone most of the time. And to be honest, I didn't bother checking their sound... until now.

Whence my question : could anyone name me a few tracks (the best ones if possible) by these gentlemen, so that I could hear for myself if they're so gifted ?

Thanks !

J.

I would recommend one of my favorite artists who claimed to be one of the original Trance Pioneers (atleast according to the mainstream US and UK press). His name is BT (Brian Transeu) and he is definately a musician worthy to check out. He released so far 4 artists albums, soundtracks for movies (Fast & Furious and Monster to name a few) and alot of collaborations with various artists some of them are pretty big shots. Check info on him on this site:
http://www.bt-network.org/
Noticeable fact: Man With No Name remixed his "Loving You More" tune back in 95'
I find his music very reach, dreamy and sometimes even psychedelic.
Check his "Movement in still life" and "ESCM" albums.

Van Dyk: For an angel
Oakenfold: Gamemaster
Angelic: It's my turn

Also Binary Finary (don't remember if it's Oakenfold or Van Dyk).
And there's a music called "Ghost" by Tenth Planet (not sure if this is the version I got), very good one, you can see the lyrics to some of these songs here:

http://www.energymix.pl/english/energy/lyrics.html

Another one (the best one) is Paul Oakenfold - Silence (Sarah McLachlan on vocals). You must hear THIS version, there's other versions much worse than that. I think the original is by Delerium.

But it's only trance. Psytrance is much better!
Respect!

Binary Finary is not Oakenfold nor Van Dyk.
Someone else.
Eitan are you serious? Communication is probably worse BT tune ever in the history, the lyrics are so silly...
full_on, you refer to Delerium - Silence (Paul Oakenfold Remix). This tune was remixed by Tiesto as well (it was the version that most of the ppl know). While Tiesto totally barbarized it (did i just invented a word?) Oakenfold's remix is very very emotional and deep.           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

Check out the Airdrawndagger album by Sasha.
For me personally it's the best album released in 2003 by far.
It's not trance though...it's just amazing beautiful prog/breaks/ambient with amazing production.

If you like normal trance, try Yunus , his stuff is pretty good.

Also Hardy Heller (also known as HH), he had a track called ICE193 that was cool.

airdrawndagger is cool indeed, but not THAT cool imho.

I think there's a lot of great 'regular' trance out there. But it seems most of it is quite cheesy which make the good stuff hard to find. Of course it's subjective what's cheese or not. What I recommend:

• Three Drives (On A Vinyl) - this group seem to always have high quality
• John '00' Fleming - White Label Euphoria - I find very good, mostly trance and a few psytrance.
• In Trance We Trust and Magik-compilations, they regular trance, mixed quality but I like them          Ut ameris, amabilis esto.

Yes, it's cheesy as hell. But this guys' music is so complicated that it easily puts in shadows this lyrics.
Eitan, you really should check ESCM album and Moving in still life. The tough part is that his music was never distributed in Israel but since you travel alot that shouldn't be much trouble.           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

it's all about Oliver Lieb for me, as he's one the last bigger names that still produces more traditional trance. he also does a fair amount of unremarkable stuff, but the average quality remains high. check out anything by his LSG project. the new album just released, and The Hive came before that. The Hive might be my favorite prog/techy/house/whatever album of the last few years. it's deep as hell, has great production, and huge basslines. it's also really cool that he mixes his own albums into a continuous flow.

if you're open to less 4/4 kickdrum stuff, then check out Grayarea. they're different from the Aussie ambient group, and they produce progressive breaks and house with really great emotional impact. you can find a Global DJ Broadcast set by them on hybridized.org that is SO damn good. they're from the USA, but i still haven't seen them play NYC...

in fact, check out the Hybrid sets at the same site. they're about to post a 4.5 hour DJ set that is supposed to be "best ever" or something. not sure about that, but i do respect their music. it sometimes goes too vocal-heavy for me, but most of the time it's trancey and features some great basslines.
