I have absolutely fallen in love with the three releases I've purchased from Ultimae Records. CBL's "World of Sleepers", Aes Dana's "Memory Shell", and Asura's "Life2" all have this lush many layered dark futuristic sound that carries this almost cinematic and dreamy quality. If I were to throw together a mix to play background for the movie Blade Runner, these three albums would feature prominently.

I plan on picking up more of Ultimae's releases, but would love to know of other labels or artists that might be of similar sound and quality. Any input is appreciated. I've just recently returned to focusing on ambient/beat ambient after about five years off in the realms of Lounge/Jazz/Funk. Things seem to have changed quite a bit while I've been gone. Thanks very much.

Try Stef's chillout mixes from http://trance4ever.free.fr/index.php?lang=eng&fonction=mixs

Those got me into this style of music. Especially Maya and Solar Genius (You will LOVE that, being a Blade Runner fan).

Ultimae's sound is unique. The only artist that comes to my mind right now having the same incredible quality is Jaia. His tracks on Dakini Records' Sky Dancing: Nada Masala compilations are ace.

Two free tracks in the style "with powerful beat" for fruther inspiration:

One of the best ambient producers in my opinion is matt hillier aka ishq. I would check these - though not exactly the style you are looking for:

absolute ambient vol. 2

Matt Hillier's style is very different. It's a more organic, warm and mellow style of (more or less) "true" Ambient. It hasn't got any of the psychedelic/goa influences. I like his stuff for falling asleep, heh.           http://enjoys.it

The Matt Hillier stuff definitely sounds worth checking out as I'm a huge fan of plain old ambient as well. Have to say though that I just listened to Stef's "Solar Genius" mix and was blown away. Absolutely rock solid stuff. Great blending and flow. Not to mention use of my favorite bit of dialouge from Blade Runner. I'll be checking his other mixes and Hillier's stuff as well, but wanted to post up quick to say "Thank you." for introducing me to Stef's work. Cheers!

Not exactly Ultimae kind of sound but check out Interchill records here:

http://www.interchill.com/

I'm still discovering what this label has to offer but so far I've found quite a few interesting releases in their catalogue.
UnlikeUltimae they have a great range of styles within the ambient realm so on some releases you'll hear total peaceful, quiet and still bliss, some are dubby, then there's 13th Moon comp which is one of my favorites that's a bit more trancey/uptempo although not fullon dancefloor kind of tempo. Then you'll find quite a bit of ethnic chill with all kinds of acoustic elements to IDM infused, glitchy Devil In The Detail comp they just released. Check out their samples on the Beatport link from their site.
They are also planning to release a chill out Eat Static album..can hardly wait for that one.
Andrew Interchill is a really nice guy so if you're having trouble tracking down their older releases drop him a line.

I'll definitely check out Healer. I agree that each label usually tends to have it's own sound. Still, that doesn't stop me from hoping that there's similar stuff out there. Either way, I haven't yet heard everything from Ultimae, and (even if it is the only label with that sound) I'm very glad that I found them.

Really enjoying the embedded material. Very nice feel to it. Is your stuff available in CD format?
