this is done by too much release of the compressor. in this case the gain-reduction is not fast enough back on -0db from the first kick to the next kick. you will hear all kicks gain-reduced but not the first one after a break but is not easy to beeing recognized when the parameters are beeing setup in a loop (where is no break).
overwatch your release with watching the gain-reduction needle, it should pump in the rythm of the bmp and should be faster on zero before the secong kick is going to hit.
anyway i think the point of the OP is something completely without compression - i never felt back with this. but in this case i would change the arrangement, and bring something less after the break and build the track up again.
