Mate, if you ask me, most of the 'SKAZI' comments that you see around here are charactarized by sardonic nature =)

Some hate him, some love him some dont know who the hell he is but you gotta admit that Skazi considered by many as pretty much successful artist, but then again you need to define 'success' - and that what this thread is about.

I think the music is the main matter here, it all has to do with originality and fresh sounds...

Well if we judge success by amount of gigs a popularity, then Infected, Skazi, Astrix, Hallucinogen (?) are the most successful.
Music isnt supposed to be they perimeter, Britney Spears was a huge success because she sold lots of albums and not because she was innovative (ha). Im not so sure she can play a few acccords on a guitar.

I would consider myself successful once im standing behind decks watching a whole crowd dance to my music.

i think the only thing important thing to be a sucessful artist is to come up with sucessful music..

and ofcourse when playing its the music ,energy and the personality...

1 makes something special... too risky, listeners too closed minded.

1000s make the same, what all are used too, 10 get a deal, because of connections, 1 gets big because of promotion.

But to come real big and that for a long time, its only individuality, that does it. (or britney spears style promotion)

Fact is, WE the listeners have the responsibility for the confrom and boring alway same fullon, prog, dark styles that come and go and only define through unimportant things. BECAUSE WE ONLY BUY THAT SHIT.

sorry i did not understood you note..

I was just saying that when you say "psy trance" to any seller in a big music store they will say ? or named you infected mushroom...and a few years ago gms.

hallucinogen, gms and infected are the most successfull artists, they are the most known ( maybe also skazy but I can't listen to his music..I tried

I have great respect for simon but according to me he never create the most groovy tracks of trance, very psychedelic symphony for sure.

respect to gms but I don't like their never ending substyle and this from the very beginning of their work

and infected create a few good tracks in the beginning

oh and I forgot to name astral that used to be very known too: here it is always a matter of taste, I like very much some of their tracks...

so the wrong question was "are they producing the best music"
..there aint "best music" but just a jungle of artists, labels and buyers.

so everyone has the right to listen , to love and dance to the music he choose { oh and to buy it too }

successfull artists generally deserve it for their work,
but success does not means quality as everyone has noticed

marketing, packaging, networking, hookup are big part of it, you can produce low quality music and sell a lot, example buddha bar "lounge " cd full of shit but with incredible packaging, networking and marketing plan...1 of the best seller cd in electronic music

you sell a concept, an idea, a fashion...music being quasi optionnal in the final product

I have been manager in the training department of 1 of the best luxury fashion house of the world ( italian one) and I run the world working for them

Music is a different "product" than clothes but lot of common points...

so to answer to mad eclipse:

how do I choose my fav artists ? : I dont have fav artists I have fav tracks : the most beautiful, the most groovy, the most flying tracks are my fav ones...(see page 1 of this topic)

gms, infected and simon are not my favorite artists at all
(shpongle's amazing thu) they are just perfect examples of successul "psytrance" artists when I see, according to my tastes, so many other artists creating better music than them...

1 very important point in success is public relations/networking...
you have to have someone doing this for you (an agent) or doing it yourself.
bit by bit having a kind of "mafia" behind you will help you to become successfull

of course there is not 1 only way to become successfull but there are some generals rules to do it.

you can try to rely only on your talent, that could work too, but in music, do not be surpprised if it will be long !!
