Hi, I've heard of this method [for monitoring], any tips or advice from those who have tried this method? I'd like to try it out. I've tried it and it does work to some extent but fails in others, in the regard that it works as a cheap ''bass shaker sensation vibrator lol'' but...the big problem seems to be the volume level of the subwoofer must be correct, and how on earth can you get the right level to match that of the headphones, otherwise your mixes will be bass-light when going on headphones. ya ya the other alternative is to use monitors lol. |

i don't really see the point in this...working with headphones is an alternative when you can't turn up your volume (neighbours etc.)...but why do you just use monitors/subwoofer setup?
sorry, haven't heard of this method before...and it doesn't make sense to me...can't be the room acoustics...the problems there are mainly in the bass area... |

to me it enhances the ''feeling and realism of bass'' lol but, im not really sure about it. im not restricted to using headphones only to be quiet as i live in a house, and in a remote area at that...i just prefer the sound of headphones usually,,, |

what monitors do you use? i ask that because i have some more or less budget monitors (but not the possibility to turn them up nearly loud enough ^^) and some quite good headphones....but i just can't mix on headphones...
anyway...my mixes sounded a lot better some time back when i had the opportunity to listen loud on my monitors...
i wish i would prefer headphones too ^^ |

I don't think a sub is necassary, but a good set of referencing headphones is a vital tool for anyone serious about mixing.
There's some areas where monitors won't tread. There's been many occasions where I've had my mix "as good as it can be" only to listen on the headphones and realise there's some nasty stuff going on or some levels don't seem to sit as well.
Also I like many people listen to a lot of music on headphones, so it's well worth getting it right. |

im going to conclude that it doesn't work...at least not with a lower quality consumer subwoofer simply because it gives all bass a mono sounding effect...not good...mixing on headphones alone is better. |
