I've been working in FL Studio with various VSTs, like Vanguard and Albino.

However I recently downloaded reason and some reason tracks, and I was astounded by the difference in sound quality. Even the Pro sounds demos and the professional sound banks sounded poor in comparison.

Is the subtractor more versatile, and is it harder to make sounds than with VSTs?

I just want to know peoples opinions, do you like VSTs better, or the Subtractor/etc.

It's more versatile than vb1 and less versatile than z3ta. It's a software synth like tones of others in the market - the fact that it exists only as part of reason and not as a vst doesn't add to it any extraordinary qualities. It's nice though, one of the few things i liked in reason.

No, it's very easy to use and the gui is pretty straightforward, but again same goes as to thousands of soft synths out there.

Thanks for the info man!

I found this, it's a vst emulation of Subtractor:

I's actually a shame that subtractor cannot be used outside of Reason. I found it to be one of the most versatile synths out there, even now.

It is amazing what you can do with the lil bugger.

Subtractor definitely rocks, the rest of reason rather sucks imo.           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:

You can get a great sound with subtractor, i work in Logic pro 8 , Reason and Ableton Live, i have to say that it works great when you know how to, i recommed to explore it a lot and get the unique sound of each one, don´t forget the main priority is musical composition not mastering tips (of course this is important too)

Well this this topic is interesting, cause I learnt first to use Reason and then I went on program like Fruity loop and now Cubase 4. It's true that if u use only reason, the quality sounds cheap, but u have to use in rewire in cubase and record in audio in Cubase. And there is also this trax from Naked Tourist named Lunatic Asylum. I asked Martin how did he make this crazy lead at the middle of the trax and he told me.... "oh a subtractor with a scream 4 with Matrix controlling the pitch of subtractor"....So really depends on time u spent on the sounds and find something killa. I just discovered Thor in reason4 and u can make really great sounds with it. But of course it's not going to sounds like analog machine           Nia KOR
