Sub-bussing?

Hello All,
wondering what sub buss strategies people use to produce with and whether this was a workspace fixture or something made for a particular track.
I need to organise my workspace and thought maybe there might be some dusty treasure here to plunder...
I'm (apparently) such a cheapskate even your two bits makes me a rich man.
