undertow u mixed my history with his, that was a Private message i sent him to explain him/the Hifi specialist) i am not a newbie or salesman i am developer of speakersystem with lots of very good reviews in the last 25 years in german HiFi press...

I stopped the business in late 90s and went into retire situation. I just work few hours per week for my living and do my Forum for my ex customer.
I came here to find new inspirations in Music , one of my customers brought Shpongle and Inf. Mushrooms records to my Showroom where everybody can hear my Speakers. We had a 2 hr 110dB listening session , i liked that stuff and now im addicted to Psytrance. Funny thing is, later in Inet googling Shpongle i recognized a lot of old guys like RAJA RAM ...
i used to listen to his Quintessence records when i was young. Guys i was listening to KRAFTWERK at the age of 16 on stage (it was possible in those times!) and that sound blwe my mind! It was 1971 since then i was (am) addicted to electronic SOUNDS. I just wanted to share some of my knowledge/experience with You... I hope its helpful. I dont wanna fight...

Wow he quoted your private message on the forum? He is being an even bigger jerk than I thought. Sorry for the confusion.

Anyway, welcome to the forum. The more knowledgable people around here the better.

Not all discussions on this forum go this way. I don't know what's up with Psytracked. He is usually quite polite and reasonable but the last few days he is being one hell of an arse.

come on undertow....all that intelligence and you can't work it out.

Unsolicited mail is generally considered rude on every other forum I frequent......and snail mail too.           http://www.whatacunt.co.uk/

well actually even open space can throw a spanner in the works.......ever been to a festival and heard the PA from the distance.....the highs.........at night.....

Heh, yeah, wind and local turbulence bubbles are realy trippy

Actually I was thinking of the refraction of sound due to temperature gradients in the atmosphere.....but yes wind of course will also have an effect on the speed of sound.           http://www.whatacunt.co.uk/

undertow, after some threads i read here, i know now how to handle it...
in my PM i tried to be polite and a nice guy to explain Psytracked my background, not posing in the thread with my Vita. Then he forced me to do it..
I have my own Forum to get rid of Forumjerks, I use the "Banned" Button...
back to thread:
really, there are so many myths and "halfknowledge" theories abt Speakers and HiFi, and roomacoustics ,
also abt the Speakers or Monitors datasheets importance etc...
I really know what is important and what is rubbish marketing blabla...
in case someone here needs an advise, your welcome to ask and compare with your own experience...
Listen yourself, compare and u find out yourself what is the important questions u need to ask...
Psychoacoustic or aynthing like that comes at the end when we all know abt basic acoustics.
The threadstarter wanted to know basics and i gave my advice.

i could post lots of good links but they are all in German, so incase some German Readers want links, just ask.

statistics:

psytracked answers in this thread in June 6th.
his 3 first answers were logged between 03.00 to 04.00 in the morning, and after a 7hour break (aparently for sleep) he had a 13+half hours row of JUST answering in the specific thread. (from ~10.00 to ~23.30) i can't imagine what lots of things we have all done in the last 13+1/2 hours !

longest time between psytracked's answers: 1hour 49minutes (from 18.30 to 20.19, really a high score)

this thread had 94 replies (without counting the one you're reading now) from which 47 were psytracked's. (50% exactly)

there were at least 8 ppl with diffirent opinions but only psytracked insulted most of them in order to stand for his opinion

conclusion:

- psytracked got banned

- Juggernaut got no answer

- even if an answer, that juggernaut could use, lies somewhere within these 7 pages of 50% information and 50% swearing and insulting, i don't think even myself reading all these to find a solution i'd just start a new topic.

cheers

ps. i maybe forgot to log something but whatever

Wow so many replies! thanks guys i did find this thread informative and entertaining... I have 1 question though... i thought that low cuts didnt cut exactly what they say they do ie if i cut at 40hz itll really cut only 30 or so. is this true? what do you cut at? i know audioholic said 20-25hz. Im trying it, but like he guessd i dont think my speakers are good enough to hear it.
Thanks

first: did u BOOST low frequencies with Equalizer??? Dont do it...pls
the Filter slope:

The filter which deletes lower frequencies is called HIGHPASS (u need that in Synthies alot) http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/oct99/articles/synthsecrets.htm

at f.i. 25 HZ with 24dB slope , which means HOW fast is the Filter goin down, how efficient is it.
In that case exactly 24dB at HALF (or double) Frequency (which is 1 octave).
There are Filters like 6dB; 12dB; 18db; 24db and even more on the digital domain.
Higher Value is better filtering.
If your Monitorspeakers are small (like 5"or less woofer) and u wanna listen at home u can cut at 35Hz-40Hz at 24dB.
But i thought u mean the endmix (final mix) for a record , should it be with a cut(highpass) at 40hz or not?
The answer is NO.
the typical frequency range in HiFi is 20Hz-20kHz, so why would u manipulate it?
There are also filters in the Home Stereo Equipment called Subsonic filters or in Home-Cinema Receivers u find the "small speakers" Highpass cut.
It takes off deeper frequenciesto protect small speakers from "exploding". Especially those 3"x3"x3" satellites u get from a 99$ set. Thats NOT HiFi.
Any good speaker has atleast 5 liters volume and a 5-6 " woofer + 1" Tweeter.          Admin and Speakerdesigner at
