Yeah, I agree with most of you in here, but do not forget that money is an important factor as well.

Why would someone want to sound like "WhateverX" ? U can borrow things, but it's just stupid to copy/paste. Unless you're after the money.

So, in my opinion, you make music because you NEED to. You want to express yourself, your fantasies, your dreams. Sound has the power to let go from within ANYTHING that words could never really describe. Music is a language both spiritual and divine. It is part of the world we don't understand completely, but still try and take the dive inside the pools of mystery, beauty and exploration.

Making music can be a profession. But music itself isn't a job. Pop music and mainstream trends, are invented to SELL. Products, which don't last. Snippets if you like. Such is the case with the silly copy/paste found in the more "commercial" subdivisions of our scene. Their musical value, is equal to that of a 30 second TV trailer soundtrack. Soul-less attempts to recreate what "seems" to be spot-on. Sometimes I think that this music is created automatically with the latest " Infinite 30 Sound Randomiser Auto Midi Sequencer " packed with the Super VST "Auto Compressor", "Super Cutoff Sweep Placer", "Terence McKenna Sample Placer" ...

I'm kidding, ofcourse, but u get the picture. Serious music asks for serious work, serious passion, serious sacrifice. When money or fame gets in the middle, or is in from the beginning, and becomes the point, then the resr is history. It is so hard to combine all the elements, and so few have made it.

In the end though, it's all about respect towards the music. The more the respect, the better the reward. Anf the reward is mainly NOT material.

Those points are very true, and I agree completely.           www.myspace.com/beat_nik

Nice post ! Still, if you make music you still use certain types of instruments which others use as well, like a kick, a bass, a lead and percussions. Even while you can synthesize virtually any sound, and use the weirdest time signatures or no signature at all. If you were really true to yourself and if no electronic music genres would exist, would you make the music you make now ? I don't think so. Clearly, there is a continuum between pure copying and pure originality. Only after about 20 years you will see how much of your music was your own and how much was genre-dictatorship

That's a right on statement... Good one mate!           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

Kirna man... It doesn't matter what style he's making, or what you think of his tracks... that's not the point of the post.
Tracks are in the past anyway, the post is for the future.

Fact is Mantik wrote an inspiring post which has been recieved extremely positively by many on this forum. With points that are very true.

Whether he does what he says himself doesn't matter, neither does it matter if he doesn't believe it himself (which i think is anyway unlikely).

It's what he wrote that counts, and if you can be inspired or do something more creatively or differently after you've read it is the point...

the point of my post was that its kinda silly for ppl to talk so shamessly about boundaries, styles and creativity... that self dont break boundaries or invent new styles... i really hope that ppl get inspired by what mantik wrote...
and im talking about present, future is verry verry much affected by present... and if present stays the same ... future wont change also, forget the past (for some ppl present) and start inventing or being creative today and not tommorow or after youve had good successful release on nice mainstream psylabel...

this track was produced in summer 2004, and i realy enjoyed to do it. the bassline is in fact a VB-1. since a half year my mind about music production changed, and you can imagine that there are some new tracks ready which will even take a long time until they will be released, thats how it goes. if you want to catch a preview to realise that i realy believe in the words i am talking here you can go an listen the actual dj sets from alex boshke for example.

i believe that you where on drugs while you edited you second post here, so i wont waste a comment on your last one

kitMAN im sorry to say, but you are the one that is propably on drugs cause you didnt understand that my post was for nikc who said that your post was for future...

and if alex boshke is from boshke beats (i really dont want to sound rude) but boshke records aint that "new style" either its like 3-5 years old ald copys monotrack or techno what ever you want to call it "DRUMCODE records" with better quality and less soul...
(sorry it did sound quite rude ) but boshke beats are definatly better for my tastes than "yahel-trance" or full on...
