Finally a man with a message !!! and let it be heard everywhere, well put here by Kitnam. I do hope people dig it though, coz im not sure if the copycats realize that they are in fact copycats, and isn't everyone copying a bit, even though it can be a very small part...?

IMHO people who are into psychedelic culture, and musicmakers especially, sometimes think of that Kitnam wrote here. The thing is psychedelic culture contains the biggest number of open-minded people=) Other music styles unite other people, and IMHO you don't have to think hard of the tracks similarity in pop or rock or house. techno. electro.
hm, well, thats why we are here=)
also i think that it isn't bad when someone uses similar (well, not the same of course) sounds. especially if you like them to listen.
sure personality, individuality, creativity and style are on the front of musicmaking. but if you make music you should have these by default. yes?

my music is my mind in sound, a creation living on its own seperate from me, being given life by me, and being brought to life through everyone who hears it.
Its not really my music to me, its life in one of its purest elements.

I agree here 100%
Everyone can do what he wants if he/she like it. If the result is a good track for someone it can only be good.

offcourse i have not expected such kind of feeback, thank you all very much and i am happy too see that people understand what my point here is.
its just not to say: go and have your own style. but more to show that you dont need to move in closed rooms, just open the door, and lock what possibilites you have there.
indeed my point of view is not the centre of the universe. asking my self such questions increased my work dramatically, i feel now: absolutly free. and if you ask me what my style is i just say: dance.
since a half year i am working with this kind of idea in my head and the results are fantastic, one day i will be able present it.
i my intention is too help other people to find their way not to tell them what to do. for my and as far as i can see for some others, i felt not satisfied anymore with working in standarts. but i couldnt get the reason why i wasnt satisfied. now i know.
my intention is to help, not to advice.
anyway standarts and formulars are VERY IMPORTANT for an producer too, because you first can teach yourself into the basics and styles. you cant find your own style realy if you didnt learnt the basics or standarts.
its like a pyramid, the fundament-elements are the standarts and generall technics. the own style is the top of the pyramid. but you need to focus it! (if you want)
you are all free, and thats the point.

WOOW no words buddy Huge inspiration, but in my opinion all this fire of creativity in an artist comes from within. Every artist has that fire in him, just different ppl have that fire to a certain extent. Then there is a strive from ppl to be rebelious and different. First these ppl r really not accepeted, but then everybody starts to realize that these r the ppl who lead everytin. In my opinion it is the key to success, individual's creativity. |

I do agree that u need to find ur own sound and stand out somehow. BUT its not that simple. If you never listened to Astrix or any Psytrance artist thats big right now, I bet your music doesn't sound ANYTHING like it does now. Dance music has always been about evolution. You can't evolve without learning from the past. I'm not saying you should copy completely from your idol artists. But I think being inspired by the forward thinking artists isnt such a bad thing. Just as long as you find a new take on an idea you are already taking.
And like Wavelogix says, the MORE people copy a sound, the faster it dies and becomes cheesy. Its a cycle that takes care of itself. Most people copy a lot, get inspired by whats out there, and some take it in a new direction, and so far, its worked out damn well for Psytrance.
I will say though that last year I was so in love with Morning Israeli psy, and this year i can't stand most of it. The copying killed it for me completely. But see, now im into new sounds in Psy, so its all good.
My 2 cents |
