I was trying to figure this out before too. You can get
For glitching -

Get tapeit VST, and use destroyFX bufferoverride - http://destroyfx.smartelectronix.com/
Run tapeit on the channel, press play, then mess with some settings on bufferoverride. Tapeit will record all the sounds that are created to a file location that you choose.
Then just import the wav file that was created, and you can chop it up manually and make it sounds however you want it to.

If you want to gate, you can either cut up an audio file, and mute parts of it, or automate the volume on a track for the same effect.

or you can get mgtriggergate which gives you a 'vanguard' looking gate vst. http://www.kvraudio.com/get/1185.html           www.musicproductionnatural.com || www.facebook.com/djamoeba | facebook page

So what's your sequencer? There are some ways to make that kind of sound without cutting and pasting anything.

Cubase has onboard Midi Gate plugin (though its called Midi Gate it is actualy a normal VST plugin). Let's say you have A1 synth with a pad patch. Route it to a midi track and put Midi Gater plugin into A1 insert. Now create another midi track, route its output to the Midi Gate plugin. From now on when a key is pressed on the second midi track it will send midi signal to the Midi Gate and it will mute your pad untill the key is released. All you need is to draw a pattern of notes and play around with Midi gate knobs.

@makus THX i understand, Reaper has this native midi gater too.I will give it a try (imho the response is not so fast cutting the wavefile is abit faster.)
Is there a way in Cubase/Reaper to put a Rhytmic pattern to cut slices out of wavefiles ?
I i saw something like that a couple of weeks ago on You..T but for FL9.
@Obelizk no need to tape it can`t i render/bounce/export the track with FX on it (with automated envelope settings)?

Soundforge has something similiar called Gapper/Snipper!
With the right settings, it creates some interesting stuff!

[JK]Don't do it, is overused and we have heard it zillions of times[/JK]

My advice: Render to wav and chop it manually

When I'm in Ableton live and want to chop up audio, i can't seem to make my audio snippets shorter then either 1/16 or 1/8, I can't remember which right now. I've tried setting the grid to "narrower" (1/32 or 1/64) but the audio snippets won't become any shorter? Anyone knows how I can do this?

Anyways, I tried AraldFX Stormgate, and i like it for stutterFX and gating, simple layout, easy to use. But some times i find that it can be a bit "delayed" compared to the songs tempo. Maybe it works better on some slower stuff?

try shift + f4 to unlock the grid in ableton... shift f1 decreases the grid, shift f2 increases it. should do the job nicely           soundcloud.com/epsylohm
