Ok here i go again.
I am responsible for some parties here in Greece and i had to contact many many labels and artists in order to get info about some bookings and here is my problem,i simply cant get in touch with some labels even if i try to look for a contact all day long.Try Atomic records for example, their phone number is never answered and the other phone number that the machine tells you to call is always switched off.Offcourse if you send them an e-mail you will receive an answer probably after a week and that guy will tell you that in order to book someone you must give him the details and he will get in contact with the artist and then he will mail you back.Well this takes something like 10 days and time is precious.I also tried to contact Spiritzone records but there was no phone number on their site and nobody ever answered my e mail.Shaffel records has a guy there that answers the phone and no matter which guy you want to book that guy there will tell you that your artist is already booked for that date and the date before and the day after that and the next month and when you simply ask for a free date for your artist he will again tell you that the artist is booked for the next 3 months, come on give us a break guys. The most reliable label so far is Tip World, their phone is working and their mailing system is super fast.
Also Hommega is a label that you can always rely on it
Just wanting the people to know whats going on and i would really like to hear your experiences with labels.

sounds unprofessional to me to be sure, but hell, i've never tried to run a psy label so i cannot comment on the pressures etc, and therefore don't really feel in a position to criticise...
this is a sorta cottage industry after all..

A label is just like any other organization. Some have good service, some are not.
The problem here that you can't switch to another label if service is bad, because sometimes you want a specific dj or artist to come and play at your party.

i agree and disagree.
agree-because the labels should provied a fast answer.
disagree-you should have a certain time frame before you decide to have a party. after all, the labels are not sitting and waiting for your phonecall. there are allot of people like you who want to book top DJ's. that is the reason why it is so hard to have a dj preforme for you in such a short notice.
in summery: if you want to have a party you have to plan ahead. it will also be good for you because it will give you more time for promotion (after all, it is hard to promote a serious party in just a few days.)
good luck any way.

1. IMO the fact that u mentioned the labels' names is wrong.
2. I've read an interview with Skazi and it seems that this guy is REALLY REALLY busy. he IS booked for the next 4-5 month (at least that's what he said on the interview)
3. I can understand the labels, they are very busy and not always available for you.
4. I agree with Mike 100%

Well why doesnt the label manager spends ten minutes each day to answer his e mails at least?
That cannot take more than 10 minutes.
I told the names of the labels because there is no point speaking in general lines without names and facts.
And something else, there are artists that work only for specific organisers in specific areas.Well this one sucks big time in my opinion and it shows how unprofessional they are.
And if you want an example i will just tell you that last year i wanted to book a very famous dj but he said to me that he couldnt play for my party because he only worked with another party team, the funny thing is that he played for another party team and not for the one that he was speaking about just after a month after my call.
Well this sucks

hey detox
try some smaller, and newer labels maybe - they'll probably be a lot more enthusiastic and responsive... people like U.K upcommers alchemy recs - they've always been proffesional in my experience, and they have access to some great artists like dark soho and miraculix (both album signings), and some storming new guys too...
another new one to maybe contact is south african based Timecode recs - if you like full on thrashing shite - ok, thats enough self promotion!
hope you have better luck with the next label u contact

Well yes fortunely the guys at 3d Vision are very nice
Well the problem shift is that in order to book big artists you need to contact big labels.Being big is somehow bad i guess in our days....

Not really. You said you want big artists, which means big labels.
Be sure that big labels receive hundreds of e-mails each day, and they can't reply to all of them. So if they see someone requesting a book, and the artist is booked already they just ignore him.

i think Detox is right.
from what my expirience most "big names" (those i speak about r techno and scuh not trance big names)answer like after a day or two. some times even after minutes.
not answering is rude. if someone don`t answer just don`t work with him.
but detox u should also plan ahead. |

I think what you should try now, is to contact with local labels (zma,acidance,candyflip...).Maybe they have connections with the artist or the label you are looking to book. Sometimes human connections-relationships, work faster and more efficient than a typical email or phonecall to an organisation.
Detox , care to englight me a bit? Tell me where and what parties have you organised so far? Just being interested..

hi Guys.
From my extensive booking experience (the whole Xpo festival and more here in Israel) I have learned several things.
Email is good but phone is better.
Most labels do answer to Emails, it's worth sometimes to send a reminder email after a couple of days. (and I had NO Problems at all working with Spirit Zone, they are very prompt in Emails). also it's good to have not the general label Email but the personal email of the booker / artist.
Book at least 1 1/2 month in advance. and the more time you have the better (some artists are booked for half a year in advance, it doesn't mean they play every weekend, it means that they will refuse parties unless they are really well paid or the parties have a very high promotion factor / interesting place in the world etc...)
and personal relation are allways a bonus. I spent 2 years going to parties just chating to DJ's there conecting and networking. also a good knowledge of english is vital, and more languages are an advantage.
