Studio One is unbeatable about workflow, quality, stability and etc...Number 1 DAW ! Cubase got great improvements, so now is competent must say ! but i think it will beat it next year when they release version 3 !
Presonus Studio One 3 probably will beat all the daws out there !!!!!! just a little bit of improvement can transform this into a Monster from Night ! 3:)

i am testing a " made in taiwan" version of it
and thinking in buy the software...
i really like the way you can convert midi to audio and then audio to midi in place with the midi information being sticked into the audio... thats brilliant!
the workflow is very nice and all this thing about being easy to work with midi and audio togheter and convert audio back to midi and midi to audio, only makes me think about work with maximum resolution...
YES 192khz... you may call me phanatic or lunatic, but its really diferent in terms of presence... and there are converts wich can make then 44100 later keep an extra "brightness" and fatness that the 192khz sample rate gives, the only con is that working with midi at this sample rate is killer even for a beast pc like me...
but with this new flexibiliby that studio one offers, i am using right now for testing 192 khz audio and midi... boucing everything to audio and editing midi at the time singulary it works, it flows and it doesnt overload, but the quality is extrem so far! |

Yesterday I compared Audio Playback 50 Tracks of S1 and Logic.
When I hit play in S1 the audio starts immediately, in Logic it takes about 1,5 sec ?!
If you create a Folder Track in Logic therer is NO Solo button unless you enable "General/TrackMuteSolo/CPU Saving" but once its enable soloing reactis very very slow.
The only thing which I really dont like that much on S1 is its color sceme.
I wish therer would be the possibility to drag audio from the arrange view to Kontakt, that would make building Sampler Instruments a real joy.
Cubase + Halion seams to be the King is this domain at the moment.

their is a buffer setting in logic to prevent glitch at low latency i think it could be the reason why you experienced the 1,5 sec |

@ansolas, you probably know already but you can drag and drop files to impact, I know it's not kontakt but for fast and simple stuff it's great

indeed, noticed this delay too it sucks a bit but I can live with that kind of delay. What is great about Logic are the Environment Possibilities - than the really great sounding plug ins - take ES1, ES2 or the very first convultion reverb in history Space Designer - which is absolutely top notch sounding and is capable of quite fascinating possibilites when forgeting the presets and looking on the options, even of feeding own algorithms/impulses from all your desired spaces and places in it etc.
Or the monster Sculpture this is for sure one of best physical modeling synth up to date or am I wrong? .. about workflow, maybe S1 is nicer I will check it someday for me and it do sound interesting for sure..workflow and 1 window for all...etc
I believe even cubase and logic will die out someday and ProTools will reign the audio sequencer territory.Someday in the future.

i discovered other absolute thrilling thing about studio one 2.5
did you guys known that you can store/save a midi clip with automations, midi, vst patch... basicly everything... like a chain in one single file??
studio one just does that... using a format called "musicloops"
first i was trying to enhance my studio one with some tips i found on the web in order to create presets for synthsizers and vst fx, i managed to create a folder inside the location of the app, then i realized that if you simply drag a midi clip from the playlist into the folder at the right...
you are actualy creating a "pattern" save, with all the information about the content, YES, plugin... the patch, automation, the midi EVERYTHING, and you can delete it, and load it again just like in a second...
does is incredible, because studio is linear based, but imagine you enjoy to work with "loops" or patterns, this way allow you to delete stuff you dont want in the playlist, just clean things up, but still... keep them save at the right corner in the folder... and other amazing thing about this is: you can play like a sample the files, i mean, you dont need to load them, you just click on the file and imidiatly studio one play the sound to show what it is to help you to find the content faster...
THIS IS GREAT, i am sold right now.. |
