the best set up for homestudios is the old favorite
the U shape set up, very ergonomic I always like free
and simple access to my equipment.
HAVE a awesome chair.. shit, even with a massager
you'll be surprise how much you can accomplish.
Turn off ur cell phone, the pesky girlfriend doesnt stop calling disturbing u because of her insecurity really can ruin ur inspiration, that also goes for jack schmo who u owe money to LOL!
have a blunt and brew hey everyone has theyre
tips, mines id consider ergonomics and having a great
comfortable work space with some mental enhancements hehe
have dim lighting for sure... for those who live home with theyre parents lock ya doors... them parents can ruin creative moments too... they'll understand.
soak your hands in warm water for 2-3 mins
before playing it helps relax ur muscles and help not strain ur hands, call it a warm up... we all forget that our hands are muscles and tendons and we want to make music for as long as we can right well take care of ur hands and ears!!!
dont make music with excessive volume shit the real engineers listen at very reasonable volume some people be surprise, lots of folks make mixes loud which is a no no... well those are the tips i can drop hope i helped at least one of u guys best regards,
Deyan

-always control your mix with headphones (which must be good also, not with bass enhancer shit or what...)
-after 8 hours, stop. ;-)))
-listen when someone says something helpful, even if you think that you're a good producer...
-don't have a girlfriend near you

Don't buy foam; this will only help mid/high freq but you can build you own acoustic treatment from rockwool wich is really cheap.

Or you can use fiberglass/glasswool. A bit more expensive, but it won't kill you.
Anyway, when making acoustic treatment with rockwool or glasswool you need to use precautions when working with this material. You should also plan ahead, just throwing it all around the room won't help. And keep it closed inside fabric. Healthier and it won't kill you.
Egg cartons do not work.
