Can I get some suggestions for an external soundcard for a mac laptop?
Or is one necessary? My son has an oxygen 8 usb midi kb and just mixing through headphones at this point. Would he need a soundcard if output to monitors?
Thanks |

yes this would be way better compared to use an onboard soundcard. I would suggest an Echo Audiofire 2..best sounding interface for that price..very high dynamic range..its really good fun to work with..
cheers

You don't really need a soundcard to piss about learning production at this stage, just a stereo 3,5mm minijack to 2x RCA (or 1/4 jack cable, depending on your amp's/monitor's inputs).
If you need a good and cheap one may I suggest http://www.thomann.de/gr/focusrite_saffire_pro_14.htm
I'm using the older Saffire
and it works fine. Sounds really good as well.
If I may say so, get your boy into music lessons. Basic music theory to start with... get him to play the piano now that he is young. It'll help him heaps when he grows up.
Wish my parents sent me to music school when I was a kid...
Peace out.

Thanks guys. Yeah, he's been begging for piano lessons, so I'll hook him up with that. And I've passed on my Oxygen 8 for him to play with. Can tell he's already got a good ear for music from what I've heard so far.

@Mike A and @disco hooligans
Those pads sure look promising...as of now i think I will settle for the M-Audio BX8A's, as everthing else, is way out of my budget...and eventually add those pads...
One of my interior designer friends suggested some really economical glasswool treatment for a conference room, so going to check how that is done...
In the meanwhile, itd be great, if you sould give me a list of good soundcards in the 200$ to 350$ price range.
Thanks.

hahaha, yes..
i love my level-pilot..
instant no brain analog volume control..
a basic midi keyboard or controller would be
also a must have i suppose.. Novation Nocturn with
automapping is nice for instant plugin controlling.
...and definately a good ol' e-mu x-board for key slapping..
Or maybe the nocturn-keyboard then.. to have it all in
one.. i dunno.. a midi keyboard at least.
i'd say the another MUST have in a studio is..
at least one physical instrument (synthesizer ! ... )

Plus. A bowl (pipe for all you non-US) that won't break when you leave it in your lap then stand up (I've lost 3 this month )

Oh man. I was so scarred by losing my favorite pipe in that fashion (a steamroller with a mini dragon on the inside...was so perfect....) that everytime I ever get up from a sitting position I scan my lap with my hands....even though I hardly ever smoke pipes.
Oh, and my vaporizer is an essential part of my studio....it has a nice dedicated spot to the right of my keyboard

Nice to know there is a fellow vapor user on isra ..... vaporizing is the best thing that could ever happen to herb imo. I got my vape hooked up to a nice glass bong.
