i heard the Adams are killer, I like Genelec although they almost sounds too good. Alot of people use Yamaha ns-10 because they sounds so flat and not very good, that if you can get you music to sound good on them, then it will sound killer on a big sound system
I use m-audio bx-8's, but it took me ages to get used to the sound. |

Hello,
in fact i use FAR monitor
http://www.far-audio.com/
but i know as well Dynaudio sound a lot cause i used to work with as well and lots of friends have them so i can hear my mix on Dynaudio quite often
I think FAR is even more detailed in the transient frequencies which is nice when you work on mastering, the stereo image and the "space" seem to be more defined as well which is good when using reverb,etc...
but because of this high response in transient frequencies at the beginning you maybe will find these speakers not so linear and you will have to train your ear with that, thing you almost don t have to do with Dynaudio which sounds "nice" very quickly.
So i recommand Dynaudio or Far which are for me among the best in the world of monitoring

I've been told locally that Genelec are the best studio monitors to have but no body seems to have given them much mention in this topic. I am about to buy them as a present for a person very close to me and was looking at the Genelec 8030A. Should I re consider? We can get the Dynaudio locally aswell. The room used as a studio is a bit big...does it make a difference?
thank you

Hey brothers and sisters, I have two questions:
1) Is there any quality difference from Active monitors and passive monitors?? Why so different prices?? (just because the passive I should use some amplifier??)
2) I'm quite sure I will buy a headphone in stead of a couple of monitors. Much more cheap. I tried to use it and I really liked it's a good sound reference. For instance you can buy a good wired headphone for $ 199,00 (AKG - K240). I guess there are not monitors close to that. Am I wrong??

Mackie HR624!!!
for me it works... all the Aarhus psy freaks (g.o.w, Meteloids, Mussy Moody) uses them...
ofcourse you can find better but also much more expensive Monitors, but atleast for mixing the mackie monitors are SUPREME (IMO)
from what ive heard & read dont go for the HR824 (the slightly larger model) because its not as fine tuned in the balance between top & Bottom as the HR624...

@ icodon
well many earphones are very good for producing music, but the cross reference with a "big" sound system is somewhat DIFFRENT!
keep in mind that earphones cant give u the same bass expirience as a big bass membrane would do...
i made several tracks using only earphones but when hearing the tracks on feks. a Turbosound system you can hear the diffrence!!!
IMO it better to have 2-3 diffrent kinds of speakers 1 set of really nice monitors, 1 set of Living room hi-fi speakers & possibly 1 set of really crapy radio speakers (the old b&o radios are very good for this)
then you can always use the diffrent speakers for crossrefrence for a better mix
you can even make your track only using earphones, just remember to do the final mixing on diffrent speakers...
BOOM ODIN

Nice. Also got KRK Rokit 5's. wouldn't mind getting my greedy hands on those V8's though, i read a review on them in the bpm-mag a while back. If it wasn't such a high budget price tag i'd snatch those things up in second. just by hearing those 5's i can only let my imagination run wild as to what those v8's sound like. |

Good one Booby!!!:)
Today is my bday and I just got the Mackie HR824 as a bday gift from my wife (LOTUS MLT)!!!Thank to your suggestion.
After you gave her your suggestion she went to a music store and asked about them and everyone was recomminding them!
I've been waiting for this to happen for ages and now that I got them I find them brilliant!
I wasn't sure which monitors I wanted but after trying them I can say that this is what I wanted;strong, clean & sharp.
Some people told my wife that once I switch on my monitors I will hear the music I was producing really bad.
Well,
waht was bad I heard it worst but what was good I heard it much better
Whipsey Daisy.....
I love them and my wife hehheee
Thanks again Booby!
btw:
I also got a pair of headphones for my bday:
The audio-tachnica ATH-M40fs.
I haven't rried them yet but after I do I will let you know if they're good or not! |
