hi i am just curious how other people go about organising the structure and arrangement for a track. obviously there are no rules and it will vary on the style of the music eg prog. vs disco.
how i have been going about it is usually 16 bars for each layer and have major transititions over blocks of 2, 4 of 16 bars. do you have any sort of symmetry in your music i.e. it will take so many bars to build up and the same amount of bars to decay with a certain sustain period in the middle or something similar?
thanks for ur response 8)
(btw im guessing this question has been asked before for some reason the search function doesnt ...function :S ) |

its the basic form to use 4-8-16-32-64 bar structure, every producer gets more and more into his own style.
its important to finish as many productions at home as possible because its the only training which teaches you the art of structure, what i prefer to call arrangement.
they key on advanced producing is to break through the usual 4/8/16/32 form and combine the arrangement in a way of breaking the rules without cutting the theme-line in the track too much. (midimiliz for example)
usually a track has a main theme and an assisting theme. many tracks intruduce the listener into parts of the main theme, building it up to a peak and give a fresh atmosphere with changing itinto the second theme, after that it changes again to the maintheme, just with a little bit more dramatic or drive as intruduced. usually in my productions i can hold a theme for around 2-4 minutes until its combinations are overused. many newbie people dont know how to continue after this time, because the hang too much in one theme which needs to be assisted by another one.
some producers are able intruduce many themes in a chain which is getting higher and higher but with a lot of different elements (simon posford for example) leading into a amazing final theme.
other producers start directly with a main theme and assisting themes but the tracks ends with a totally different theme but on the same note-key. (astrix for example)
there are many ways, just listen!
good producing

learn from others and get inspired, but in the end - do your own thing |
