I just got an extra older desktop pc for my studio from someone who bought a new pc and didn't need it.
I equipped this pc with a Creamware (sonicore) Luna2 card, and a behringer ada8000 8io adat interface of its own.
It is also using a Yamaha An1x as its own dedicated midi interface.
Audio is connected to the main studio pc via spdif (stereo master) and adat (various patching options here). Also pcs are connected with midi.
Now.... how would you use this pc? I don't want just another clone of my main pc. I was thinking maybe to run some dedicated sampler on it like gigasampler for example, or maybe turn it into a crazy reaktor machine. The thing is, I would like it to be usefull in daily work on music not just something for experimenting with. Maybe run something like Absynth on it?
Would love additional workflow/usage ideas
cheers!

maybe if you can reset it- run dual boot so you can run both windows and/or mac osx etc... so you can have the best of both worlds. (vst, sequencers etc...) and maybe use it for BIG synths like omnisphere and such.

I say: if you have an extra pc and want to use it's processing power, then go for it!
If it didn't have a sound card, you could still use it with Audio-Over-IP -> but that's not the case.
You should use it for everything you don't want to put in your production pc (like you said, huge virtual synths and stuffz..). Another perspective is using it as a master effect and spectrum, in that case have an ozone installed and route all of your audio to there
But remember not to depend on in, because you won't be taking it out to a party
Two tips:
-use synergy+ (so you can use multiple computers with only one mouse and keyboard [and unfortunately it doesn't work with midi controllers..]) and
-redirect your explorer.exe to your audio applications (live Live.exe).Like that the computer, when starting up, goes straight into your application, bypassing windows explorer (ctrl+alt+del still works, and from there you can run explorer.exe manually if needed)
