Hi people I am trying to figure out how to do good string art and im looking for advice. I am aware that similar topics have been posted before I UTSFE but the topics I found were answering questions about string art designs, rather than practical implementation of the designs. So ive only tried makeing 2 string pieces
1) Hooks vs. Eyes vs. screws vs vs Staples:
Which do you favor? Ive seen all of them used, so far I found screws to be easiest because it is easiest to keep the string tight while continuing to make the piece. Eyes made it hard to tighten. Staples I couldnt get to hold the thing.
So Ive found screws easiest but there is a tendency for the string to slide up and pop off the screw head.
2) Avoiding getting tangled up:
I always end up all tied up in a mess of fluoro string. How do you string artists prevent this from happening, especially if you need to correct something and thus pull back a large amount of string?
Do you use 1 long piece of string that loops back and forth, or small string lenths, 1 for each line?
3) Where the hell do you get 4 and 6 way pipe joints, or some sort of 4 or six way joint, or what is the best way to build one? So that I can make 2 and 3d axis. Or how else do you make a good + shape or cross? Nailing doesnt work because the 2 pieces just swivel around on the nail. I tried lashing the two pieces of the cross together and that worked OK, but was still a little loose, and even worse walking around with a cross like that makes me feel like a freakin' Spainard off to convert the Savages.
4) Do you work alone or with someone else? I often need help from someone to hold down the stuff Im tying the string to so that I can pull it tight. Do you usually work with other people or just set up your workspace so that everything that needs to be held in place is held in place?
