Strategy for 2 synths taking up same Freq spectrum

You have 2 synths that are essential in your song and both are taking up pretty much the same frequencies but you more or less NEED both of these synths in your song. What do you do so they are not muddy besides panning them in different directions? And go...

oh and to make it more specific, both are chord stabs, playing like 7 notes at one time each, with 8 oscillators for each note on each synth. it sounds very thick and heavy but how do i control both of these synths at the same time?

sometimes a phase adjustment might solve such issues.

a great vst for that is voxengo pha-979, perfect for the job cause you can place the sound on where you want, unlike the usual 90 degrees phase reverse functions.

try using the waves stereo imager to pan them instead of just regular panning, you might be able to get some interesting results that don't feel like they are just panned left and right.

Pseudo stereo involves delaying the left or the right stereo channel a few miliseconds, which creates the illusion of space between the two channels, since it appears that the left channel is removed in time (and consequently space) from the right channel. It's also a good way to solve phase problems like Tsabeat mentioned.

reverb and eq?

and beside the psuedo stereo and phase adjustments
maybe invert the one sound and leave the other alone, so they kind of pump in each direction... hmm i dunno..

The best solution is probably to fix it in the arrangement

in logic audio there is this plug called StereoSpread. Its not like the stereoimage of WAVES!
totaly diferent function
here is a pic of it:
http://images.apple.com/logicpro/images/specialstereospread20040930.jpg

as u can see it changes the location in the stereo spectrum of the freqs u need using sinusoide-like curves. if u apply this filter (or something similar) over one of the synth, and the same, but with reverse settings over the other u will be creating "tetris-like" construction so that both synths "fits" into each-other. it also will enhance your rms power of both synths and u'll be amazed of the result. But i cannot remeber other similar filter as a standalone plugin apart of this Logic Audio offers. Its a great trik and helps a lot in such situations. If u make also some further eqing, take here, put there but trying to maintain this tetris-like logic, u'll resolve your problem
