I'm resurrecting this old thread because I'm sick and tired of hearing my timeless 80s new wave classics (bronsky beat), 70s rock legends (ACDC) or my embryonic rave pioneers (opus III) being systematically remixed into steaming piles of crap by so many questionable artists.
I'm not going to name any names, but I just wanted to say that these people make me sick. What motivates these people to make bubble gum pop versions of ORIGINAL and DECADE defining songs? I mean if they're going to do it, why don't they do it with a sense of humor like Weird Al?
Also, why do most of them come from Israel? It it something in the water? Or does copyright law work differently down there allowing them to hack and slash other people's ideas and work and make them their own?
I've heard some good remixes, but since taste is taste and opinions are like assholes, I would prefer that NO reprises/remixes be done AT ALL rather than many with maybe a pearl or 2 shining out.
Want to listen to what I esteem a remix should be limited to? Listen to Solead - Lay Down |

Israeli artists release steaming piles of crap day after day ... The new Star-X album is out on Chemical Crew and as you would expect it's pretty much crap all the way. The reason Israeli's butcher good songs is because they think they can lift on the success of these songs to reach more money with their crappy skills. You see, they can't write good stuff themselves so somebody else has to do it for them And it's weird. Think about it. They want to be superstars in a scene which isn't really commercial so you would expect they're not in it for the money. But hey, they are. They're just one of the reasons this scene is moving backwards. "Subconscious unravels at the point of death, and all time it has known erupts into a moment. As death extinguishes us, so we become it."

Just my 2 cents here....
First of all I must say that as an artist doing remixes can be very pleasent. I like to do it very much!
And maybe the problem can be the ARTISTS themselves, and not the "doing Prodigy rmx" thing.
Am I wrong or all this discussion has the same target as "shit copy paste artists/always same bassline artist/always same melody artists"???
So imo its only matter of taste again. How does Eskimo's rmx for Prodigy sounds like?? Sounds like Eskimo. How does GMS's rmx for Iron Maiden sounds like? Like GMS. How does Solead's rmx for U2 sounds??? Like Solead as well!
And why not bash our old Evil Drug Lords when they made the killer rmx for Pink FLoyds The Wall??? Or Haldolium for One of These Days??? Cause these artists are not the "basshing target artist". Just to mention I love these rmx for Pink Floyds!
Bottom of line: listen/buy what U like.
Ps: for more than 4 years Im trying to make a rmx for maybe my all time fav song, but till now no good results. Maybe ppl are not doing rmx for tracks they like, cause if so I bet some of "not so good rmx" wouldnt be released. Only matter of dancefloor reaction!

You are correct it is a matter of taste. But I'm trying to make a distinction with a track that has obvious references to a prior work (U2 for Solead, and Marilyn Manson with Twisted System) and a full blown remix which for me is the original track made worse with a cheesy pumping full on bassline and shameless use of MIDI files and no mention of the original artist whatsoever. If the label/artist is afraid of being sued for at least mentioning the original artist's name where then here's a hint pointdexter: NO DON'T IT!!! It's illegal and unethical IMO.
Again I won't mention names, but I heard a stomach-turning-shove-a-pencil-in-my-ear "reprise" of Alphaville's "Sounds like a Melody" and well this is the type of stuff I'm fighting against. I only hope some day the original artist will wake up and sue the culprit back to the stoneage. Hell if this trend continues I will try to work out a class-action lawsuit on behalf of the original artist That's how strongly I feel on the matter.
And please, this "buy what you like" argument is getting tired. I'm trying to raise concern in order to protect the values which I believe our "scene" promotes which is CREATIVITY, RESPECT (respect of other people's works in this context) and PSYCHEDELIC CRAZYNESS And I'm sorry Mr. SMS but there is nothing crazy or psy about hearing "Smack my bitch up'" with a full-on bassline.
PS. I have nothing against (israeli) full-on, but they are the obvious guilty party. When have you heard X-Dream remixing Kraftwerk for example? When Tim Schuldt decided he wanted to make music like what he listened to in high school (Ministry and the such.), he DIDN'T RIP-OFF "New World Order", he made something new with obvious references and influences. See the difference? |

OK, I got u!!!
I agree about your values, and about artists just don't caring about it.
My point of view has just a different angle. That the issue here is not the rmx's, is the artists themselves. Even without names it's obvious who we are talking about!
So, I still prefer the "stop making shit music" topic than "stop making rmx's" one.
To be honest I prefer the "Stop Making Sense"! lol
