2009 has seen the rising of Max Cooper, Begining in last november with the remix of Extrawelt's In Garten von Eden which was played heavily, then the EP harmonisch Serie whic was reviewd in RA, Symphonica EP which contained the beatifull track "The end of Reason" and after some pretty good remixes for Eulberg and Extrawelt here it is a new EP.
1.- Stoschastic Serie - The ambient soundscapes of the prevoius realeses here are turned in to high ditortion and create a more dancefloor friendly track, high on psychedelia.
2.- Dischordance - Again minimalistic percussions lost in the sea of atmoesphere and delicate melodies, deep stuff for after hours.
3.- Mnemonic - A more techno track with distortion here and there and a very industrial feeling.
4.- Stochastich serie - Leek remix - a more housey verison of this track which turn pretty grooby, but I prefer the original
4.- Automnemonic - a slower and more ambient version of Mnemonic, more for listening on home that for partying.
FAV: 1 and 2
Overall rating: 9
From Kompakt realese page:
The title of Max Cooper's "Stochastisch Serie" EP, refers to his use of stochastic methods, also known as non-deterministic, or random methods of sound generation. Stochastic elements referring here mainly to real sounds including vocal experiments and sampled sounds which create a complexity and richness which has been a trademark of many well known Traum releases in the past. The London based artist Max Cooper sees his new 12" as a construction of different moods going beyond club music, as witnessed in the past through tracks such as "i" and "End of Reason".
It is no surprise that "Dischordance" is another one of these timeless pearls alongside these mentioned tracks that have created a fan base worldwide for him. The friction Max generates is created by two sides colliding, the synthesised drums and melodies and the random experiments with voice. His dance floor rockers "Stochastisch Serie" and "Mnemonic" work in a much more functional way but do include bits of this randomness and therefore are part of the superstructure "Stochastisch Serie".
The remix of UK producer Leeks is very hip in style and sound and will please a lot of younger DJs who love the cool swing and groovyness with music and will find the functionlism here going very strong.
Microtrauma from Germany turn the track upside down in their remix, taking out the elements that create the tension and incorporating them in their subtle beat, creating a steady flow of deep music.

"The dedication to repetition — the search for nirvana in a single held tone or an endlessly cycling rhythm — is one of electronic music's noblest gestures."

Max is definitely starting to push his own style through. some of his harmonies in Dischordance and Pins and Needles remixes are amazing.
i just wish he'd stop re-using the same basslines and synths from the Extrawelt Garten von Eben remix. great track, but enough already.
..it's just another party..
