Hi people!

I have been checking out Steve Roach's site, and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good cd to start with. Cheers

Some months ago first listened to 'Fever Dreams'2004 as his first album for me and can easily recommend it as a starting CD. It has catching mysterious atmosphere as if you are in the night in some creepy place like deserted building site or maybe even cemetery and everything aroung looks suspicious .
All the rest i've heard recently - Structures From Silence, Life Sequence and collaboration with Vidna Obmana - Spirit Dome i haven't found so original, but listened just a couple of times though.

i like innerzone (w/ vidna obmana)
but all the other ones i have are definitely worthy.

some times his catalog gets a bit new-age-y, but for the most part his sounds are deep, shifting, and well produced.

i have a few Steve Roach albums and one part of me wants to say they all sound the same. but i guess that's not really true.

'Dust to Dust' - a collaboration with Roger King is great and worthy of mention. kind of minimal psychedelic cowboy blues.

I particularly like 'Day Out of Time' while performing repetitive tasks.

'Mystic Chords and Sacred Spaces' which involves a few cds is good, as well as 'The Magnificent Void'. these last three are the sort of not-ethnic space music variety.

If you like tapping wooden sticks and digeredoos then get 'Halcyon Days' or 'Trance Spirits'.

He has made a lot of albums of similarly high quality, and its hard to go very wrong in my opinion.

I recommend the 2 cd early man. I think it can be his best work.           `Bottomless wonders spring from simple rules, which are repeated without end` Mandelbrot
