Hi everyone, im trying to make a bass line that has the low frequencys in the middle (mono). In the mid/hi section i want to do some stereo spread, ive tried chorus, stereo spreaders, sending 2 signals, one left one right and procesing diferently, very short delays with no feedback, etc.. and nothing works the way i want, and what i mean by that is that i have problems like more high freq on one side than the other, resulting in a panned like bass, or it sound a little bit like it has chorus, or sounds like 2 diferent sounds instead of one. here is a link to the type of bassline im talking about, hope someone can help

you could split the bass into 2 bands and use a stereo enhancer (some comes with multiband support )or delaying/detuning slighty left and right chanel on the highs band.
or you could just make a stereo bassline and then mono the low end by highpassing the side chanel using middle side.
but to me it don t make much sense cause the side are already very busy in a mix but it can work for sure.

nope can t listen right now you could also try layering 2 bassline, one just for the low and one for the mid and highs.
what phase problem do you have? if it just get quiet but sound good in mono it s not really a problem and you still have the low that wont be afffected.

ok now im confused, i hear that in the example link the bassline is playing even when the kik hits, i dont hear any sidechain compresion on the bass and it sounds like the low freq of the bass are also stereo spread, that makes sense, because if there is no ducking in freq or volume in the bass when the kik hits then the lows of kik wont interfere since they are in the middle and the lows in the bass are stereo spread, but i thought bass was omnidirectional how is this achieved, i dont think is a good idea to stereo spread very low freq..... what to doooo what to doooo

In my new album i have some tracks with this kind of bassline. I duplicated the bassline and made one hard left and the other hard right. Then moved one of them couple millisec infront for a wider sound. Worked nice imo. With same EQ and shit on each ofcourse.

cheers.           For Contact & Bookings:

if you play your bass in mono still sounds good? in the second link i hear the bass a little bit panned to the right, or with more high freq on the right, how about low freq, did you leave 3rd channel for lows in the middle? one more thing hahaha have you played this tunes live? if you have what do you think sounds better, regular mono bass lines or this type of basslines... by better i mean
clearer full sound

dont know if this links will help you. there are three tools to make the low end mono and spread only the higher freqs.
i had also good results with the samplitude multiband stereo enhancer.
