Ive heard that it's good to keep kick and bass in mono for more power, but also know that some people use stereo.
Could some people who have experimented with both ways on good monitors please tell me the goods and bads about either way.
I am experimenting with both ways myself but I am interested in what other producers do, and what is the trance default option? hmm

thanks

If u use stereo tracks but not panning or stereo effects it will be the same as a mono track. But then u can make panning effects in breaks for example.            Signature

As I understood it, all percussion (kick, snare, hats) should be mono.

Or?

thnx

the subject is around acoustics.
First read the chain compressing technic
for basslines posted 3 week ago.
I mixdown my basslines from an access viruc c into logic 5 through my audiophile soundcard so to b listened from my dynaudio studio monitors.I ve made 2excelent kicks, the first is applied a cutoff and a eq ,the other is just full on deep freq, both stereo.
I import the 0db recorded bassline file *.wav
into a mono audiotrack, boost the already boosted midle range with eq.
I apply compressor to the bass and side chain plug-in to my deep kick.
My room is full of boomy furniture so i have to mix with my akg studio headphones and a technics cheap sound system.
The result was amazed me,commercial!
Try to make basses and sample it from a friends hardware synth.

sometimes going offf topic gives a little spice to a forum i quite like it as long as it's not exagerated...

i make them in mono, record them in stereo... U never know what u will want to do with the stereo-image while mixing... If u record a mono-signal in stereo it will sound exactly the same as in mono, so that's not a problem... It only takes up double the space on ur HD

i read somewhere that if you have your kick/bass in stereo,at big pa systems you may have big cancellation problems...

You can use the kick in stereo and ajust the "kick power" with otiumFX Basslane. Thats a great freeware that you can download at this link:

http://www.kvraudio.com/get/1086.html

The bass in stereo, center and front. You can use a Stereo Imager to control it.
