Heya!

After years of DJing I'm interested in creating my own universe. I lurked the forums for a few weeks now and I have a few questions to ask. As it should be, sound quality is very important. So here are my questions, maybe you can help me out or clarify stuff for me : )

1) Using Sylenth1 for basslines, I know it's possible to add a subbass by adding another oscillator with one Voice and one octave lower to my current bassline. I'm looking for a Polyphonia/Zumi type of bassline and I was wondering if I could add another voice at the same octave to make it more subby because lower basslines don't seem to be affected with one voice at one octave lower. So how can I add more sub? EQ?

2) What about the velocity on the bass? for darkpsy I think 60-100-75 is fine enough in 16th but the two last notes are a bit longer.

3) Kick: I like using Bazzism so far to understand how to make a kick, but can anyone tell me at what frequency should the wave start and end? I've been using around 4300hz to 58hz so far. What should the lenght of the sweeps be as well?

4) A friend told me that I'll have to chose weither the kick or the bass will lead the sub sounds. Can anyone clarify this to me? I thought the kick's subs should roll with the bassline's.

I know those are very general questions but I didn't find awnsers to them yet and I'm eager to learn.

Thanks : )

when i use bazzism to make a kick i always set the low freq to the bassline and just put the high frequ to what i think sounds best.

as for question number 4:

what ur friend is refering to is that some people cut their kicks to a length of 1/16. doing that will allow ur kick to run freely without rumbling into the bassline which starts right when the kick has done its job. this method lets the bassline "lead" the subbass since most kicks wont have a long lowend tail with a length of 1/16 at 145bpm or whatever.

but you can also have a kickdrum that has a length of 1/8 or even more with great lowend. in this case the bass is the one who has to move his ass out of the way and the kick will lead the subs. this is commonly done via sidechain compression which means the bass volume gets reduced when the kick is still doing its thing.

Or you can balance them with E.q to get a nice combo ball of low end... your room acustic is very importante for this to, and a pair of flat monitores will welp to . good luck!

What freq is your bass on?

Putting subosc on top works better if you have little higher bassline.
