Hi people,Any advices on how to start producing. I have cubase sx, reason 2.0 and Reaktor and some VST plugins that I really don't know how to use in Cubase I also need a midi keyboard if I want to use Cubase is it not? Reason is simple but it sounds to amateur, maybe it's me who doesn't how to take full advantage of it. In the other hand Cubase and reaktor give me headaches just by looking at it. Any advices?!           Opus Iridium

Hello
i'm new to this too, but already into production 2-3 monts...
i dont know whats the best way for you, ...

but, when i wanted to start i downloaded reason, played alittle with the drum machine, pressed alot of TAB to see the cables bounce but never realy did something.... it was realy confusing for me, and when i tryed reading the manual, the need in a MIDI keyboard confused me and made me feel kaka...
then after a big period i dont even remember now, i heared reason2 was released, searched everywhere for it with eyes lile 0_0, and when i finally got it, it was the same story...

only but only when i have put my hands on FruityLoops something began to move you see?....
like fruity alows to use the pc keyborad as a midi (without need in external programs like Midi-yoki that i didnt know then, and steel much much easily)
and ofcourse what got me to realy making stuff was :
1. checking many of the demo tracks that came with fruity, trying to understand them
2. READING of fruity's simple simple manual, reading well
3. little stuff i created
4. my first tune

so if you ask me, i say forget about the MIDI keyboard for now, get fruity studio 4 - which makes all the patterns thing there much easier and good luck..

and again...thats only my experiance.
p.s. dont get afaraid of frutiy , i know some ppl from the net who released quality trance stuff with it

Flotser, You can use reason without any Midi Keyboard,It's very easy to do so if you find a good manual or a tutorial. Reason is very simple to work with but it sounds a bit amateur, and there's no 24 bit recording. I was asking advices more about Cubase and Reaktor witch look real complicated when I use them.           Opus Iridium

basically my advice would be to get a headache and get into cubase. like you said reason doesn't sound too good if you want that good sound and improve your music you have to move to cubase or logic. You can still use reason, but not on its own. From my experience the begining is hard in cubase or logic cause you need to setup things the right way. But once you're set, you're set!!

to Flotser: you don't need a keyboard at all in reason. I used reason for one year without a keyboard. You can do easy melodies with the matrix pattern sequencers.

so back to the original post: you don't need a keyboard in cubase either. You can enter notes with the mouse. And believe me it works fine this way. Basically the way i see it is: it depends how much money you have, if you have extra cash then i would get a midi keyboard, other wise forget about it, it is not indispensable.

last piece of advice: try to get toghether with friends or people you know that can help you with getting started in cubase... that might be the best option for you right now... or do search on forums like this one..

if u like to get into reaktor chk first how the small .ens are done...then u can start to make your own and chk the big ones...there u ll find many functions...but i would first learn cubase or logic...btw, if u have knowlegde of electronic ( lfo ? =(-; ) it s much easier...

and about reason:
chk the green alien-synth maelstrom...then u think twice about bad noise-quality...

no help for cubase...using logic...sorry

happy tracking

...won t blame u, but if cubase makes troubles all the very best with reaktor...
i had to decide between tweaking noise, test new softs...or doing .ens by my own...well...i decided to go for the first ones...
but when u ll manage it someday, then u can be very proud of yourself cause u ve got "unique" instruments=noises...

good luck man !

I used fruity for some time, but didn't really like it. It was very limited.
So I read the whole Cubase manual, and now I can say I pretty much understand what's going on there. So I suggest you read this manual (operation manual.pdf) and get going

i'm kina new to cubase too...first i also got headache...but itss the same with every software...i dont think u can seperate software into groups of easy and heavy ones....every software will look so unlogically the first time u try it, but with time u get in it and reach the end of the tunnel!!
and about vst usage in cubase: its very simple! create midichannel ----> open the dialog vst - instruments-----> choose your vst -----> set midi out (in the inspector) to the vst and go on!! for everything else ------>rtfm (no offence )
